  • Ammo Observation

I took my Daughters boyfriend out shooting and rather than rotate like I should I just bought some within the last 2 months and used it. I shot a few rounds as well and did a normal long range shot of a couple hundred yards with the 9mm but something interesting happened. I used the same hold as always and hit consistently low by 15yds with both TULA and Winchester ammo. We also had 2 hard primers on TULA one that never went off and one that took 2 hits. This seems to be happening more and more with TULA. Close range accuracy from 20yds in didn't seem to suffer with slower deliberate fire and groups were acceptable.
I was afraid that with the rush manufacture of ammo quality might slip and it appears that primer quality has slipped and powder charges are not good. It has slipped IMO so I will be shooting the newer stuff first which is contrary to what I normally do. If I start seeing improvement again I will start rotation again.

Has anyone had any similar results or observations with recent ammo purchases?

Maybe it's just me but I've noticed a lot of ammo available that says Target Load.
When I look at the specs, it appears the FPS is slower than normal.

Also, I've noticed that FNH making their 5.7x28 has, over the last couple of years, has changed their ammo around.
Their standard was originally the ss-190.
Then they made the SS-196 for non-leo which po'd everybody because it was slow.
They went to the SS-195 which was better.
The ss-195 in their white box was ok but then they put it in the blue box and it was slower again.
They went to their ss-198 for leo only and it was back fast again.
Seems like there's a lot of this <slow down the ammo> stuff going on.
I hear the lead-free primers are getting better but they still don't have the lifespan of the old <good> primers.
I'm not real sure I'm trusting a fair bit of the current ammo.

Unlike food, I do not rotate ammo... My best ammo (BH MK262 MOD1, IMI M193/M855, USGI, GUAT) is stuff impossible to find now days... I do not trust the new "factories at full steam" ammo we see now... I shoot that stuff first.

The tinfoil hats are saying the .gov is telling ammo manufacturers to make crappy ammo that doesnt shoot good so the people cant defend themselves against them in this upcoming battle against the people... LMAO

The guy that told me that must have been high. I had him going with the whole Hillary is a draconian that worked out of Level 7 of the Dulce base in Dulce, NM.

Oh, you could have had him going on the whole "Illuminati NWO taking over the world" conspiracy since the ammo Matt was using was made in Russia. That would have been worth at least two or three hours of entertainment.

I was at our local fram supply/ gun shop today, and they acually had some ammo in stock. Looking at the prices though made me very happy that I bought a bunch years ago. They had 223/556 for any where from .75 to 1.50 a round, I got most of mine at .10-.15 a round. I mostly shoot reloads and keep the good stuff.
