  • cabela's negative experience

    mods,
if i'm breaking a rule... i apologize. let me know and i'll delete.

i ordered some ammo from cabelas. it was left at the door to a barn on a concrete step where it got wet from rain. .

    not at the house.
    not in the carport.
not inside a big open bay (which would have kept the stuff dry!!)
at a side door to the barn sitting on concrete slab, just about ground level.
out of sight from our house.
i tried to get cabelas to help me contact the shipper.. no help
i asked for phone number for shipper, told to find it for myself.
asked for cabelas to relay the many emails we'd done to the shipper.
i don't know what they've done, but i don't think they have relayed the info..
i've told them the ammo got wet. they want me to tell them if it is wet again.
then write cutesy little notes about, feel free to contact them if i have any further questions.
i have finally plainly asked for my money back.
still more of the same questions.
i asked for the cabelas rep to give me his name... "you don't need to know that" he responded.
many more details i'm leaving out because i'm tired of writing.

    guys, gals,
i can't believe this has happened...
this is a huge nationally known company.
i have several guesses as to why.. but i shouldn't share them.
    some may be wrong...

    just for your info.
    rr
oh yeah, during all this jrh sent a shipment. that driver brought it to the house!! that box didn't get left to the elements.

The driver that left the JRH box KNEW BETTER than to leave it in the rain ;) LOL

Sorry to hear about your Cabela's order.

Delivery drivers do stupid things some times. I'm guessing your local UPS center is probably based in that town about 2 hours from you where we met you one time, I think it's name started with an "A".

UPS is bad about not listing nor giving out the phone number or addy of their local centers, but if you search I'm guessing you could find it. Ask your business contacts if they know where the local center is. Usually the best time to go there is late afternoon- like 4'ish.

Take the box, maybe a pic of where it was left, ask to talk to a manager. I'm guessing it had an ORM-D sticker if it had ammo. Ask them why something that valuable -and potentially dangerous- was just left out in the elements. What can be done, this is ruined, etc. Problem is, unless Cabelas insured it, UPS will give you no more than $100. for it, and then after more than a few hoops to jump through unfortunately.

I'd call Cabelas again, ask directly for a manager, certified mail if you really want to/need to be persistent.

Realistically, you may not get anywhere with all this, sorry to tell you that.

I'd consider what type of ammo it is. Unless it's soaked to the bone, it's probably usable unless it's in one of those Mattel toys you like ;) Just kidding. Seriously though, I should post some pics of some of the ammo we are rotating right now- people would think I'm nutz for shooting it. Had a whole slew of stuff get "moist" over years, heavy rust and corrosion on the rim of the casings, some on the primers. Never a misfire in about 3-4K rounds so far though.

    Good luck. Shoot it up!

Yeah, that sucks... But unless it was some kind of fancy ammo in pretty boxes, I would still complain but dry out the ammo, slide them on strippers, tuck them in bandos, and load it into an ammo can... I doubt you will get any return or replacement on ammo... UPS is already not that happy about them shipping ammo anyways...

"What I have done for you is to issue you a refund of $xxx.xx back to the credit card ending in xxxxxxxx Please allow up to one billing cycle for the refund to show on your credit card account"

        Lowdown,
i think you have a cabelas employee on board...
if so, thank you, mr. cabela's employee for helping out.

at 9:33 (49 minutes after my entry) i get the above quote in an email.
this has been after many days. and the email looks like the writer really read my inquiries. thank you mrs. writer.

if she follows through with her email, she will be refunding all but my shipping.
        i can live with that.
        hmm.

ld3, if you think we should delete this. it suits me. either way suits me!
i'm a happy camper. i guess i'll have to order from jrh again.

        oh yeah.
here's part of one of my emails to cabela's
"6 YOU OUGHT TO HIRE THE FOLKS AT JRH ENTERPRISES TO HANDLE YOUR SHIPPING FOR YOU! i sent them money for an order last wed.. it was at my door on tuesday morning.
and it wasn't left at a door to a barn!!"

i fussed, so i needed to tell all that cabelas finally came through.

do like ive seen folks out here do build a box just inside your gate or on your porch "deliveries here" with a pad lock for the driver to lock it.

ive seen ups do dumb stuff..if you ever wonder why you box looks like a train hit it ...its from the driver..trust me. one time i had a package look like a fork lift did doughnuts on it...stuff inside was ok but you'da thought other wise by the box lol
Hey Petunia...you dropped your man pad!

Cabela's has always been good to me, unlike Sportsman's Warehouse... Glad it worked out OK... Now the question... Do you now have to ship that ammo back to them? Or do you keep it?
