  • Reloaded ammo?

question for you all. i found a place that reloads ammo, they have .40 cal and 9mm in stock, I have never reloaded and don't really know how nor have i yet learned the ins and outs of bullet types and grain charges but i do save my brass for a buddy who can and would if SHTF, but doesn't now. He thinks this is a good deal with free shipping. now i'm not trying to spam, and i do trust him. But the price per thousand for 9mm 124 GR FMJ, RELOAD was $251.86. So here's my question, what are the pro's for reload other than price and what are the cons? they had other grains. All my ammo thus far has been name brand both brass and non. I prefer the brass but i couldn't tell you why? :)

What are some things i should watch out for? they do have a satisfaction clause, but I live on a very tight budget! So can't just get something to try it out and it be a waste or junk so i really am asking for your guidance. I do have Boston's Gun 'bible' and am reading that and he does a pretty awesome job on making it all understandable, but i have always believed in more than one source of information and then i make my own decisions good or bad. :)

    Thanks

Right now that's not a terribly bad price on reloads...

But with me, reloads are hit and miss. If it's a known reloader that stands by their product (like Black Hills, Cabellas or Independence) you should be okay. If it's Billy Bob's Live Bait, Hair Care and Basement reloading selling out of an unmarked Ziploc baggie at the local gun show...probably best to pass.

Personally, I'd pick up a hundred and inspect each before running them. See how they shoot and go from there. Sometimes the money you save on suspect reloads costs you more in the long run with having to replace a pistol that blew up from a hot load.

+1 on that, Grand. I reload my own ammo for practice use and have for about 30 years. I DON'T reload for defensive rounds. I trust my own reloads and the ones I buy at my local shooting range (from a larger, local reloader that reloads for several ranges) and that's about it.

Ditto what Grand says. If you reload your own you will be happier and take less risks blowing your gun up as well.
From a legal pre SHTF standpoint NEVER use reloads in self defense cause the liars, i mean lawyers, will use it against you. Mas Ayoob puts out great court case testimony information on this. Post SHTF well blaze away

Thank you guys, I ordered some to test them. I did a little research on them and think they may be ok. they actually sell new as well and reload and have an exchange program. feedback is pretty good on the company as well so will see, probably be 4 weeks before i get them.

its funny i actually had a relative tell me he gets his from a friend of a friend in Ziplock baggs!!! I said noway aint trusting that! :)

I was wanting them for practice to save the new for defense, so that's good. didn't think about it blowing the gun up, can't afford that so I'll use them in the older ones. :) well old for me is a bought used one. problem is on the security side i kept putting it off, i know dumb dumb dumb dumb. I should have bought a little over the years and would have had a crap load on hand but didn't.

Again thank you for the feedback greatly appreciated.
