  • Dixie cup with 25 - 9mm's in it.

So I was invited to a Dell customer event held at an indoor shooting range. From people that attended last year, Dell bought a boat load of ammo for the event, and truly people were sick of shooting before the ammo ran out. The range also offered a simulator, with over 40 shoot/no shoot scenario, etc.

Anyway, with 25 people there as customers, and another 15 reps from Dell, we went thru the dog and pony show, and got excited when it was time to shoot. I had brought with my my XDm .45 and my XDs .45. I was excited because I had just used a powder ridge kit to replace the springs in the pistols to take the 6.5 lbs trigger pull and get it to 3.5, with a lot less travel.

We go in to the range area, get our pistols cleared by a range official, and then head to the counter with our pistols. Counter guy looks miserable, and when I tell him I would like some .45 he says..."we aint got any!" Turns out all they have is a thousand rounds of 9mm to spread around to each of us, and 500 rounds of .223. The Dell guys are ticked off with the range, but the range guys are like...Nothing we can do about it.

So I take my guns to my Truck, and go back in to shoot my dixie cup of 9mm. There I am greeted by the assoc pastor I shared a desk with during the dog n pony show, and he looks at me and says...how do you load the magazine? I look around and there are no other range officials in the room so I give this guy a quick tutorial. He is shooting an XDm 9mm in 5.25 with some horrible novak knockoffs sights. He does okay....

While I am loading half a magazine for the xdm this darker shade fellow peeks around the corner and asks me the same question...now this gets funny so dont leave this thread...

I give him the same instruction as the asst pastor received. Then this guy asks me... "How far should I put the target out there?"

I told him that "I usually start at 7 yards and then move it back when I get comfortable."

He says,"Man, that is way too F'n close. I dont want someone that close before I start shooting!" and proceeds to put the target at 15 yards. I went back to my XDm 9mm and hated it. Shot 15 yards myself and barely had a 12 group. Thing was nasty. I decided to wait on the guy next door, so I could shoot his Glock 17. Guy is just finishing up his 25 rounds and as his target gets close I am noticing that there are not too many holes on the brand new target. All in, he had 8 hits on paper, 5 on the man sized area. BUT one of those was in the X-ring...Dude sees that and starts high fiving me and yelling,"that MF'er is dead!!!!!!!" over and over.

I put his target back to 15 yards after he was done being REALLY excited about his shooting, and shot a 6 in group in the targets neck (which was really good for me) and the dude sees my shot placement, and goes crazy again...He looks at it and say,"are some kind of f'n olympian or something??" Just a funny day. Hope you guys enjoyed the story, I thought it was pretty funny.

LOL! That was funny in a sad way... ;)

Hope that 15-yard guy never needs to explain his shooting distances to a court... "he was too F'in close Your Honor! So I popped him some caps from my bedroom window when he was in my backyard...."

Hey, I like my XD's, but the XDm's are hit and miss. Some people do great, others low and to the left, i think...

I have never really shot a glock 9mm. Have shot a super small glock .40 and did okay, but that gen 4 glock 17 (i think) was pretty good. I havent shot that well since I borrowed my buddies kimber 1911. That was the best shooting pistol EVER!

i had a smilar experiance. I bought a used gen 2 g17, took it out, shot it, and it shot better than the c75 i had and the XD9 i had. sold off the XDs and the CZ and bought a g19 to go with the 17.
