So I was looking at a used Mosin Nagant for around 100bucks. ok condition, but the ammo wasn't so cheap (100bucks for 440 rounds) it takes 7.62x54r would a 7.62x51 work since its so close?

No the 7.62x51 is a different round from 7.62x54R, they do not interchange. The 7.62x54R is a rimmed round, that's what the R stands for. The 7.62x51 is not a rimmed round. The 54R is a good round, it ranks with the 30-06. Their is nothing wrong with a good Mosin Nagant and around $100 is within the ballpark on price.Intereo pro quispiam vel ago nusquam -

NO! Despite the name, bullet diameter is not even the same. 7.62x51 is a rimless cartrdge using a .308 diameter projectile, 7.62x54R is a totally different rimmed cartridge with a .310 diameter projectile. They are not interchangeable at all.Comment
