Well, I looked into the piece that fits into my vest over the sternum, but that's not going to work. It's just too small to be worth it. I think I'm just going to make a better effort at wearing the vest more often. Last night was our "date night", so I wore the vest when I took my wife out to dinner. We were half way through dinner when I mentioned a bit of tailoring I wanted her to do on the vest. She hadn't noticed that I was wearing it - and that's with a white dress shirt.

I still need to modify the holster that I use when wearing a vest, but that's for another thread.

To attempt to get back on topic…. To get more serious responses about your topic, let the group know what you are trying to achieve with the body armor. There is: “soft” armor, “Hard” armor, Level II, Level IIA, Level III, Level IV and some other levels I am missing. Are you only worried about pistol rounds? Do you need a solution for rifle rounds? Does it have to be concealed under a T-shirt without “Printing”? Do you care if you look like the State-Puff marshmallow man while wearing armor? Do you need to go on a 10 mile hike while wearing it? Is there a price range you want to stay under? This type of information will help tailor the responses you receive.
Thank you for an intelligent and reasonable answer.
            It is appreciated.

I'm pretty sure you can find civilian body armor on the web by search engine without coming here with an agenda. Have a nice day
Little boy, this was such an asinine arrogant response I'm just going to ignore you completely.
Your assumptions and your rudeness have made an *** of only you.

People like you are why forums like this don't grow.

Admin edited- RIIIIGGGHHHTTT.... And people like you are why we don't let just anyone in or STAY here. We could let in a bunch of spammers to grow our membership numbers as others do, and let the forums disintegrate into a place where people can call each other names like you did to get more publicity, we don't. We don't tolerate that crap here and we make that crystal clear....

People browsing forums see these unnecessary and callous remarks and move on.

If this was MY forum and you talked to new members like that for no good reason, you'd
              be history real quick.

Admin edited- And if this was MY forums one of the Admins would have banned you by now for starting to cuss at older established members for no good reason.... Oh wait, that happened already!

You ARE good at at least ONE thing...a sour sarcastic attitude.

              Good luck with that.

Admin edited- And yes I received your "I WOULD have been such a great asset to your forums and would have eventually donated $.50 as a supporting member but I won't now cause of this other guy" email and replied to it.

And for the record, donating a few dollars (even if you "would" have, doesn't give you the right to cuss at established members here. I have previously and will continue to give refunds to anyone who contributed $10. that acted like a jerk on the forums and was banned. We don't need those types of people here.

Do try to learn from your actions.....

Got one on order, due to be shipped early this next week. I'll let you know what I think of it when I get it.

Unlike the soft, concealable body armor that I use, this stuff is for all-out combat use. You don't wear it to the grocery store under your shirt. In reality, I will almost certainly never use it myself. I'm simply too old and too out of shape to make good use of it. I'm getting it because those who are young enough and fit enough to really use it, probably can't afford it right now. Basically, I think of it as helping outfit someone else should the need arise. That's something that I hope that all of us who are on the "far side of 50" are seriously thinking about. Most of us are probably already prepping for our children and grandchildren, so set aside some to outfit those who may be putting their own lives on the line. We still have a role in what's coming.

As a side note to the topic - this is one source of where the honorary title of "Colonel" came from. Men who raised and outfitted the local militia, but typically did not lead them in combat, were given the honorary title of "Colonel". It was not viewed as a military rank but a title of respect for their service. One of my ancestors in the late 1700's was known as "Colonel ___", probably for that reason. The title is now strictly an honorary one, and is awarded typically for some type of "above and beyond" service, which is how I came by that title (awarded by the Governor and Sec. of State in 2004).

My days of wearing the super heavy plates and soft armor combined with the hanging tacticools that weighs a pound short of a baby elephant and running the mountain are over as well however if I get cornered and know I have to fight my out then gearing up and doing so this may be my only saving grace. I have the older wrap around plates. And yes I know I shouldn't get cornered but for those bugging in or staying in one place after bugging out it is a reality and plans should be made. Shoot a badguy could just decide my house is the one for a door kick in and slipping that on before heading to the front door wouldnt hurt.
                        Interesting tidbit on the colonel.

Too bad on the newbie, seems like he asked a reasonable question and was goaded into it. Didn't ask about anything illegal, at least in my FREE STATE. I doubt if he feels he lost much given the question and immediate responses. So what if something happened!?! My wife works at a school and I still have a daughter there too and it prompted me to take action with body armor that day. So jump on me too and lets party, I'm your huckleberry. You don't even have to do it here most of you have my e-mail and/or phone number. This is a discussion, open forum, a place for knowledge, a place to address concerns and even fears as long as it stays legal supposedly by "experts" who do and live it. I shoulda spoke up sooner I guess, my bad on not doing so. This aint a closed club, if it is then close it to me, if not move on and add valuable input because some real things have been addressed by him opening it.

That's me, Rockriver - thanks for the welcome and the kind words. I posted a longer reply in the "Introductions" section to your post there.

You're right - Laura and I were camping in a tall Lodge tent sold by Cabela's. It's still my favorite type of tent for a number of reasons. Again, thanks!

This sort of thing is exactly why I left another preparedness forum after a number of years and a whole lot of posts. It's why I just stuck my toe back in the water by joining this forum after several years away from any kind of preparedness forum activity rather than diving back in. After sticking my toe in the water, I realize that the water is still quite cold. I'm now shifting into "lurker mode". There is much to learn here, but I can see it's better to just "listen" than to "speak".

Sorry guy's, I think Fight4Freedom was provoked. He came with what I consider a valid question but stated it in not so good of a way. THIS is the place to ask those kinds of questions. We can have threads about letting people starve or feed them, killing someone who comes on your property, the best way to set up an ambush and so on but when someone asks about protection then he gets jumped on by XDPATRIOT. Then admin gets involved because he got mad and broke the rules. XD the basics of what you had to say was worth posting, but you need to learn manners. Spock, I love ya man but you failed as a moderator and let a veteran member stomp on a newbie for NO GOOD REASON. Mods and Admins, please bring this thread up next time you talk amongst yourselves and lets try to learn from our mistakes, whatever they may be. Just some thoughts of mine on a thread gone bad.
