  • yard sale deals.

This is a thread I started because I want to hear about some of you great finds. I get a lot of my prep supplies from yard sales and flea markets. I am a college student working at a fast food place. Money is tight. I have gotten a canoe and trailer, guns, knives and even silver for very cheap. However, my best deal lately was just about a month ago and i stopped at a little yard sale in canton. I picked up six re curve bows 4 without string 2 with for a total of 45 dollars plus about 20 for some strings at a local store. So that is six working bows that are now in my barter supplies. These will go well as arrows can be made and used multiple times. See various vids on the net for arrow making. What have been your best recent finds?

Not a traditional yard sale, but an online Facebook yardsale for my local area. Picked up three 20# propane tanks for $10 each. Simply posted what I wanted and there was a big response.

We also have a local Homesteaders Swap Meet page. There is also a once a month swap meet that goes with it. I have been able to sell quite a few animals (goats, ducks, chickens, and rabbits) and trade for a trio of rabbits. There were some great deals to be had there, I just didn't want or need some of the things that they had awesome deals on, like $1 for a full grown duck.

Oh, I did get some great deals on clothes for the man cub at a real yard sale. $2-3 a pair for new looking jeans, bought two sizes, some for now and some for later. Not only is it prepping for him to grow, it frees up money that would have been spent on jeans for preps.

Yard sales have become a nice way to pick many different things up. Having growing grandchildren, yard sales, goodwill, salvation army and other locations become a great way to put some extra larger clothes away at very cheap prices. Every once in a while an old fashion meat grinder, greens shredder w/attachments or old fashion snowshoes in decent shape will show up as well. Of course its handy to know how to restring the rawhide mesh if necessary. We also have a magazine that comes out once a month up in this area called Uncle Henry's. This classified book is on line as well and has a ton of different things in it. Weapons show up there many times too. Excellent way to pick up someone's "grandpa's old junk"......lol.
