  • AR Green Followers

So a "friend" of mine who you may or may not be familiar with cough cough
allowed me to have some of his old green AR followers. My plan was to use them in some old Colt 20 rounders I rescued from a certain destruction. Unless someone here can tell me how to hold my mouth right while putting them in there I cant figure it out. The fit is too tight with the plate locker tabs which I dont want to destroy.

I went ahead and used them in a few 30 rounders that I decided to "upgrade". That remains to be seen till I get them on a rough course which will be accomplished soon enough. These are super simple and easy.

I threw in this pic to show the progression of the followers from aluminum (before someone gets upset again) to the black plastic to the green plastic more U shaped anti-tilt

You are taking the floorplate off and putting them up from the bottom, right? ;)

Nope I'm loading them on top like ammo that will soon burst into flames! LOL
Yep the locking tab on the floorplate is keeping them from going in and I do not wanna remove the locking plate tabs from these

I was kind of afraid this might happen, but figured you could give it a try. I would have figured the front anti-tilt tab and center post was too long, but apparently there are other concerns. Plus the slant of the 20 round mags doesn't look like it will accommodate. I'll take the one I have here apart to see the locker tabs you are talking about and see if I can make it work.

While I figure you posted this in jest, this is how it went in for me and actually the only way it will work without breaking the locker tab...

Okay, put the front part with the channel in first from the top, start pushing it in until its nearly vertical. There will be a lot of resistance as it gets further in, but the fat end will eventually push up against the feed lips. Bend slightly underneath the feed lips and pop it inside the magazine. The follower didn't break and went in just fine. Now here's the catch (no pun intended). The spring won't be able to get connected to the follower so all you will have is the spring tension keeping it in place. Not sure how well that will work, but the principle tends to work on a lot of pistol mags. Might work okay for range use which I figure this is the intended purpose anyway.

Unfortunately, I had already damaged the locker tab by the time I figured it out so the mag is done for (anyone need a 20 round AR spring and aluminum follower lol). But when the bottom plate was held in place, the follower acted like it should up and down. It's kind of a pain to get it in that way, but this is the only way I can get it to work without damaging the locker tab and in turn popping that rivet that holds it in place. When I've had some sleep I'll attempt to recreate it. But those original 20 rounder mags were about as confounded a piece of kit as I've ever seen

            You're a genius Tech lol
