  • Swivel Base Screws Question

Folks, before I tear something up, I have a question.

I have a set of Uncle Mikes quick detachable swivel bases that fits most rifles, they are wood screws. Got a new strap today that I wanted to put on the .22.

Will it hurt my non wood Ruger 10/22 carbine if I drill the holes and install these? Its the black synthetic stock.

With Red Dawn on, I have to do something.

    Advice will be much appreciated

Hard to answer that without looking at your stock. It depends if its hollow, partial or solid. What synthetic stock doesnt have swivel holes predone?

I didnt realize it didnt have the holes until a week after I bought it. Just now got around to getting an extra strap. I cant go up against the bad guys without me strap.

well if your worried about the butt end, 550 cord that end. and just install the front one.
or drill as close as you can to the end where the plastic is strongest.

i don't know nuthin about no gunsmithin'
but i don't think a wood screw will hold in that plastic.

              2 choices
              1. go to your friendly gun store and ask to see their rifle. ask the salesman how he'd install a sling.
tell him thank you. buy a box of ammo or the sling he recommends, then go follow his advice.
              2. sell that rifle and buy one that is more suited for a sling.
i don't think the park system will let you can bring a rifle and all the mags you have for it to the ga campout... that's too bad... cause if you could, i think several of the fellas there like a ruger .22 and would buy the package from you, even with all its faults. lol

                HA!
Yeah because someone once said that I could not use my Ruger for a defensive situation....lol

Watched a few vids on it yesterday and read a few more articles on this. Seems like it can and will work. I just come to you guys first before I google stuff.

Yeah, I am going down to the local sporting store (not chain kind) where I bought it. Hell, they got me on the price of the bullets and the mag, the least they could do is screw two holes for me.....

Not sure how big the screw is but if it is standard sized then drill a 1/8" hole where you want the stud to be. Make the hole only as deep as you need it to be. Put a little dab of your preferred epoxy (two-part or standard) on the end of the stud and threads and screw it in. Allow at least a few hours for it to set up before attaching anything or moving it any. Overnight would be best.
You should have a swivel stud that is guaranteed not to rust, bust, or gather dust.
