I have been looking at red dot sights - I do not have any experience with them - what are everyones thoughts on red dots.
I would like to put one on my AK47, Ruger 10/22 and mossburg 12 ga.
i am leaning towards the TRUGLO Traditional Red-Dot 2x42 Sight for about 90.00
    any ideas let me know

I'm running an eotech on mine and love it but it is a battery hog IMO and there are better options than when i got this years ago.

Hi all I would not use any sights that require batteries, I have some red dot and a eotech I have all of them fail at one time or another. I am looking for a low power to a low power vairable scope, like maybe a 1 1/2 to a 4 or maybe 6 power with a post. It would be the same thing as a red dot with a maginifer and fast at finding your target, the only draw back would be in low light. Check it out, I might have an eotech for sale.

I was thinking about the battery issue also for long term use, but I think as long as your iron sights are up to par for back up - one should use technology that is available

agreed, they can always be twisted off and dropped

You can look at those that require very few batteries over the lifetime. I.E. Aimpoint. Yeah they cost a pretty penny, but the batteries last forever. 30,000 hours run time for the PRO or 80,000 for the CompM4. That's far more than most use them for in 20 years. And they are hard use gear.

Provided that's a promo vid for the DD M4 Carbine, it still shows what the Aimpoint goes through.

Cost is the biggest factor, but sometimes it's a buy once, cry once philosophy. I run an EOTech on my personal carbine which I actually prefer over the Aimpoint, but have the Aimpoint at work and still recommend it. And the CompM4 uses standard AA batteries. The EOTech 512 or 552 uses AA's as well. Both can be recharged. Like Matt said, the EOTech's are battery hogs, but they are durable and very user friendly.

If you are serious about a sale, shoot me a message with the particulars. I'm looking for another one.

I've ran EOTECH, AIMPOINT and Trijicon ACOGS. By far the ACOG is your best bet. No batteries and you've still got the illuminated reticle. I have one EOTECH that is about to get sold or thrown in the river, I can't decide. Battery hog and has gone down and not worked at all. I had to replace the end inside the battery compartment. I'm running an AIMPOINT T1 micro right now on one of my rifles and love it. It's NV compatible. I put a quick detach mount on it from LaRue and it's gtg. My primary has the ACOG and it's the best optic I've ever been around. You can YOUTUBE examples of ACOGS that have been shot and still finished the fight. Resilient.

It's not made of gold, and when the hair is flying I don't want to wonder if my gears gonna work. You asked, I gave my opinion.

Thanks for the review. I think I'll try one on my M&P 22. It's good to know someone makes an affordable quality product.
