  • Open Carry

    We got open carry signed into law today and it takes hold Nov1. Will I carry openly, no, not in most cases for obvious reasons. The good news is I wont go to jail for accidental exposure of my my concealed weapon now. There will be times when I carry openly like when I go into town and check in a deer and am in and out of place where most of us are armed anyway or maybe where i'm going to be driving more than anything.
    It's good to be in a place that is progressing instead of taking away rights like new jersey or kalifornia.

    Congrats!!! Here in Georgia we have a GWC (Georgia Weapon Carry) license. It allows you to carry concealed or open (with the usual restrictions). Nice to see the lefty's haven't won everywhere :-)

      I've open carried for years. Not to make any sort of statement. Just that I tuck my shirt in and up until the past few years open carry was the only legal method without a CCW permit and I don't think a grown man needs to ask permission for things. The only time I carry concealed is when I have a jacket on. I've not had any of the bad experiences folks talk about. No harassment from law enforcement or extra scrutiny from anyone. Most people don't even notice and if they do they typically just go about their business. The only interaction I've ever had is someone striking up a conversation about guns.

      What's always surprised me is the reaction from "gun people" regarding open carry being negative. I've never understood why it gets turned into a big deal. It isn't unless you make it one either trying to show off or "stick it to the man" in some sort of one man protest.

        I'll second that. I open carried for years when I lived in Colorado. I never thought twice about it and was never challenged or looked down upon. It was more commonplace there being the west and pre-9/11.

          I don't usually open carry but I like the fact there here also I can, so if I jump out of my truck and need gas I don't have to worry about who is going to see me. I find that it's easier to carry descrete and avoid potential hassels.
          Survival question. What do I need most, right now?

            Here in NY state we have CCP (took a year to get it) and I have had times where people have seen the end of the barrel and almost flipped out. During hunting season you are able to open carry out in the woods. Even if NY had a open carry I still wouldn't just for the reason I don't want them knowing , but that will never happen this is NY.

              ok maybe my reasons for not carrying open arent as crystal clear as i thought(hmm seems like somone was just talking about that somewhere)
              I care less bout the officer checkin me or whatever but with the socialistic attitudes of people I have had sheeple EXPECT me to do something. A good example was when 2 people were fighting. SHEEPLE: "Why dont you do something?" ME: "To who?" I had no idea who started what or what was going on. I called 9-11 and left which upset the socialistic sheeple who knew me. Now just imagine that i have a open sidearm and 2 guys start cutting each other and the sheeple then EXPECT me, the guys with the teeth(Sheepdog) to do something. Whatya want me to do shoot both? Why have that hassle? If i'm not working as a cop and an onduty cop at that then i'm not gonna buy myself grief, plain and simple, that gun is there for me and my choices as to when to sheepdog
              I'm also not one to back down from verbal/physical altercations that are directed at me. With open carry it quickly goes into "whatya gonna do, shoot me?" Whereas i can verbal judo a road rage ninja to death if i'm concealed without that unless it is needed.

                      There are many good things about open carry. I'm glad we have it now but, for the most part, I will still conceal. I worry about someone coming up behind me and grabbing my exposed gun and then what?

                          I was informed this morning that down here, you can not carry a firearm in waffle house, even if you are licensed. Looks like I will go to Starbucks for my coffee.....:O

                            And these same sheeple would be the FIRST to give you up as the bad guy, the guy with the gun "looking" to cap someone, etc.

                            A long time ago in a galaxy far far away I went up North to visit a dieing relative of my Mom's. Every other member of my Mom's side of the family is libs- REALLY DUMB liberals. I don't know how it came about, I think I offered to cut something for someone in the hospital room, anyways a few of them saw I had a pocketknife on me. Some time later that night, an always drunk, usually acting out member of that same part of the family shows up and none of his sisters want to let him in to see his dieing grandma. I thought that was harsh. They started discussing how they were going to deal with him. I heard "well Rob has that knife.." Normally that would have gotten a 'WTF?' reply from me but given the setting, reason we were there, etc. I just looked at them with a stupid look and slowly shook my head. These dip$@$% liberals expected me to intercede in their messed up family issue for them. Technically they are family, but pretty far removed and honestly we moved long before I was old enough to get to know any of them. Yeah had the guy came in and started getting unruly I would have drug him out of there, but knife him? Hell no.

                            Sheeple don't get it.

                            On the way back from the hospital that night I discussed the thing with my Mom. Told her that she should know the last thing I would have allowed was someone to get hurt there but that those folks would have given me up in a heartbeat had the po po's got involved to keep their (probably wanted) son out of jail again. My Mom simply "your darn right they would have, you did right."

                            Matt makes a great point about that with the open carry.

                            See in the liberal mind, everything YOU have should somehow benefit THEM. So if they know you have a gun, you should use it to get them out of THEIR stupid predicament right? Afterwards, oh hell they won't care, you were the "guy with the gun" therefore evil in the liberal mind. But when they need you, they need you.

                            Same exact way they (liberals) have $hit on and continue to shiite on the American soldier. Liberals will always do that. Go and fight for us to get us cheaper gas, then when they get home they want to cut their benefits, crap all over them.

                            Liberals suck, plain and simple. :)

                              Matt, I've got my pistol, a small extendable billy, but am thinking about a good long knife to carry in case someone does pic pocket my gun so I can hopefully get it back and remove their fellonious fingers in the process. Any thoughts on knives and a hidaway sheath of some kind?
