How many here use, have or have even thought about handgun caliber rat shot?
I love the stuff! It wont cycle autos and probably wont kill a zombie unless point blank and then it's a maybe but it has it's place.
I carried it alot when I used to live on the river and ran trotlines alot. It was great at dispatching snakes that would fall off of limbs into the boat without sinking the boat.
It works great in barns and chicken coops without airiating the walls and ceiling when dispatching rats and mice. I have .22 (also use it in my 22 rifle) and 9mm and have used 38s, 44s but you gotta watch them 44 suckers in the barn and how close to the wall you are:)

Matt, I too luv em. I use them in a ruger mark II .22 pistol for snakes and mice. I have some for 9mm but haven't had them on hand when needed. They are great for up close and personal de-snake-ifying while walking through the woods and around the creek. I have found they have about a 10 inch pattern at 10 feet with the 6 inch barrel.

I always kept 22LR on hand for my Ruger Single Six and killed a couple of rattlers while clearing our property.
But a few years ago our horse stalls and feed room were invaded by large Norway rats. I found that for efficient kills I had to step up to 22 magnum shells (CCI), otherwise they'd run off, die in a hidden area, and then stink. I ended up having to use poison there were so many (some old chicken barns down the road had been demolished, I think that's where they came from).
I bought some CCI 38 Special shot but honestly have never tried them.
I still keep 22LR and 22 magnum on hand, the magnum is hard to find.

When out in the woods my first two rounds in my .38 are shot shells. I have killed rattlers, copperheads, water mocs using the shot shells and they do come in handy in situations. Also my cousin has shot and killed rabbits with them too out in his garden. He said the rabbits were about twenty or thirty feet in distance and they were one shot kills.

Just remember to not shoot them in a ported gun. That being said, when I was fishing in the Osceola NF or riding my bicycle out in the sticks, the first two rounds in the P90 or M66 were snake shot. They saved me from many a snake and dog bites.

ETA: The .45 cycled the Ruger just fine.

            We love those out here!
