The Slingshot



The slingshot is an often overlooked tool of weaponry and food gathering. It has many advantages and disadvantages. I have taken many small critters such as rabbits, squirrel and birds and dispersed many a neighborhood cat fight and warded off a few would be kid aggressors back in the day with well-placed and volume fire. I shoot everything from rocks to marbles to lead weights or bullets. The lead does the best in energy transfer and power factor but might be the last to use when times are tough.

Advantages:
Cheap
Lightweight
Easily obtained ammo
Easy to train everyone on
Takes very little room or equipment to practice
Fold up models take little pack/pocket space
Replacement parts are cheap and easily installed
Great time killers
Quiet, doesn

I agree. I was just thinking a good "toy" for the kids would be slingshots. Keep em busy honin their skills.

I have that yellow daisy one from Wally World. Its good and real easy to get accurate with it. Rocks, marbles and anything else you can find along the way. But I will WARN YOU ALL, make sure you are paying attention to how you are holding that thing. I have seem someone almost take their thumb off with a ball bearing because they had their thumb in the line of fire. Don't use old Tom Thumb for an aim, just focus on the center of the "Y".

Also, I dont think you can hike with one in the national forests. I know there are some dumb laws about them. Cant remember where I saw that I just know when I go hiking, I take that bad boy out of my pack.

And its easy to replace the band. I believe they sell extra bands at The Wal as well.

I have one also and use it to take squirrels and once a long time ago a suicidal rabbit (why else would it havjust set there and let me shoot at it twice). It is also a good trainer for kids to learn how to judge distance and the adjustment it takes to make hits. I've been considering on of the slingbows, but it's down my list of desires.

Them rabbits think you cant see them and will hold real still even when snakes bite at them as their defense

Its easy to replace the band. I believe they sell extra bands at The Wal as well. Academy has better bands for the same price

Well you guys are ahead of me! I've got a couple that I practice with but haven't brained any animals yet! LOL I've got a couple of replacement bands but you're right, it would be good to pick up a couple more.

Sling shots are quiet and they work well and ammo is abundant and FREE.

Regarding the bands rotting... as with most rubber things... I wonder if it would preserve them by putting the spare bands in a mylar bag with an O2 absorber??

Just a thought..
