I have been seeing the Knives of Alaska brand knives at the local Bass Pro over the last year. After throwing it around for a while I decided that I needed to add a couple of good fixed blade knives to my collection.
I bought the Muskrat and Caper set. They are both nasty sharp as any new knife should be, and come in a really nice leather sheath that holds both knives side by side. The muskrat is designed for skinning out game and has a round tip on the blade that is sharpened past the point. I tried it out skinning a squirrel this weekend that met his demise trying to break into my duck feed. It made skinning a really quick task. I know I could have gone the usual route to skin him out, but I was using it as a test for the knife.
The rounded edge really made it easy to seperate the skin from the carcass without any slip ups. The caper being a little sharp pointed knife with an edge you could do surgery with made the rest of the job simple.
I bought these knives to go into my pack for when I move out of Colorado back to a state that is more trapper friendly. The company makes a couple of other 2 knife sets that I will probably be purchasing to go into the packs of the res tof the family. I will definitely be adding their bush knife to my belt.
I would highly recommend knives from the company. I will try to post up pics tomorrow.
