  • .45 Auto made by Remington

My son is in heat for this weapon as a graduation present. I've only had personal experiences with Colt .45s. Does anyone have any personal experiences with this Remington .45? Would really appreciate hearing your opinions, good or bad.

I have Colts,Llama, Remingtons,Springfield, STI, Kimber,Taurus, and even the new Ruger all in the 1911 platform. I have a thing for 1911's. IMHO the Remington is a good standard military 1911. I has only the basic 1911 features without any bells and whistles. Mine has had only about 200 rounds through it but the only failure to feed was when I tried a cheap mag that I didn't want to trash(it's gone now) The Remington worked reliably with all the American made fmj ammo that I put through it. With 1911's, you often get what you pay for so determine how much then look at who. Take a look at the entry level from STI too.

I personally would go with the Taurus. You get a lot packed into the package for a decent price to boot. Ignore the "I had a friend of a friend who saw on the net about this guy who never owned a Taurus who said they sucked" crowd. Taurus has come along way since their poor quality control a long time ago.

And ignore the Kimber fanboys. A pistol doesn't have to cost $1K plus to be good.

And yes, I own one. It's the best price you can get for the features you get.

I second Grand's endorsement of the Taurus 1911. It is a great gun at a great price!

Believe it or not, the Armscore Pistols under the name of Rock Island Armory are awesome buys. They WORK! Any resemblance to an STI is purely logical as STI contracts a crap load of their components from Armscore.

Agreed with all. My cuz had a Remington, in OD green. He fired anything through it, no jams, no stovepipes, no failure to feeds.

Hey Grand! We couldn't find any Remington R1's locally to play with (in the boondocks.) While we were looking around he picked up an ATI mfg in the PI and fell in love with it! I got it for him, extra mag, and 2 boxes of ball ammo. I haven't seen him that excited since he was a little kid at Christmas time. He stayed on the front porch shooting it, playing with it, all afternoon when we got home. We read a lot of user reviews on that one and everybody seemed happy with it. I know he is, and that's all that matters to me. He's a 3-time All State baseball player (pitcher/shortstop,) 4.0 GPA type kid. Should've bought him 2 guns I guess! Ha!

I don't have the equipment to post pics, and wouldn't know how to do it if I did have it. Sorry! I guess I'm just too old to get involved in that stuff.
