good vid. . great project and on the cheap which is good

Not to hi jack.. but...if it helps folks save some cash..

hardware is all ITW nexus mil grade stuff

and what you can do with them..granted you need to sew . but you dont need to have anything but some 550 or cordage.

we need to have more films like to this for folks to save some cash and be less dependent on store bough "junk" LOL

@Protus - what type of needle and thread are you using to get thru all those layers of the strap?

I will have to see if my wife has a sewing machine...can't remember if she sold it or not.

I use Coats & Clark's "button and carpet" thread. It's a heavy duty thread. As for a needle, I keep a small piece of scrap wood to push the needle through the thick parts. I like to use fabric glue first to make sure everything is in place (and will stay there!), and I sometimes have to pull the needle the rest of the way through with a pair of, wait for it, needle-nosed pliers.

would a normal household sewing machine work on so many layers of the sling material?

yes, but not in the long term. Most have plastic parts now days , so older machines work better.

The main thing is a good needle.Hand start your needle the 1st few drops. and run from their. The thicker you go the harder trouble you will have due to how high the foot will rise and plunge. I can do up to 4 layers of 1000d, but i wouldnt wanna do it all day long.
1-2 layers and some edge tape/ribbon and its good to go.

I use a singer spartan ( 80's vintage irrc) and a newer 2004+ white and besides a good cleaning for both i have had no machine issues only user error :)

which is a good thing. You did have to buy the extra hardware right?
If you did , you should try the "mash hook" style over the HK hook. its faster on some connections vs the HK style. Only issue is last i checked the mash hooks went for around 5-7$ irrc....
