anyone own a Henry U.S. survival rifle? i have one , its about 8 years, i love the ability to pack in my BOB or take it backpacking, very stow-able, the sights really suck, , any ideas on replacing the current sights or a QD scope mount for it that would stay sighted in if i remove and install it alot? and what kind of scope is good for a 22 LR, Ive mainly used it just for plinking in the past, would like to be able to kill a squirrel or bird at say 25-75 yards, next to impossible with current sites:(

The bigger problem I always saw with them, or at least their older "Charter Arms" brother was the fact that they were jam o matics.www.homesteadingandsurvival.com

both the original armalite and the newer version made by henry work great with stingers. After a few mags of stingers, I can switch to federal bulk pack without to many problems. I've tried a few other brands of ammo with mixed results. I find either the standard magazine size or the 25 round ramline mags work great. I haven't had good luck with the 15 rd. metal mags.
As for a scope mount, I believe they are already tapped so a scope mount can be attached. I would have to dig them out of the safe to see for sure, as I haven't had a desire to put a scope on them.
Here is a pic of my Armalite (top with collapsible stock and barrel shroud) and a henry (bottom). The one is sporting the ramline 25 rd. mag, and the other a standard magazine.

With stock collapsed. For those wondering the stock and barrel shroud were made by mitchell and IIRC there was a 50 rd. mag made by mitchell available at one time too.

Of course the 10/22 or the AR with 22 conversion are much more fun to shoot. :)Last edited by sniper69; 03-13-2012, 08:02 AM.

the problem with the older versions and jamming all comes back to the magazines. I came to this conclusion after I built my first sten and had to make the mags work to the gun.
If you take some time to modify the lips of the mags as well as how they fit into the well so that they are tighter you will find that the jams pretty much go away. After I made my mags fit the magwell tighter, I filed the lips down to be parallel to the bolt instead of kicked up at an angle. Once you get this done, round the edges on the front so there are no sharp edges. Hopefully this will help someone out.

What or how new is yours? I have heard this is an issue. What did or has Henry said? They brag about accuracy http://www.henryrepeating.com/rifle-survival-ar7.cfm I don't know what is out for the newer ones? A QD scope mount that will stay sighted in when removed all the time? I will ask around.Originally posted by Norcalprepper View Postanyone own a Henry U.S. survival rifle? i have one , its about 8 years, i love the ability to pack in my BOB or take it backpacking, very stow-able, the sights really suck, , any ideas on replacing the current sights or a QD scope mount for it that would stay sighted in if i remove and install it alot? and what kind of scope is good for a 22 LR, Ive mainly used it just for plinking in the past, would like to be able to kill a squirrel or bird at say 25-75 yards, next to impossible with current sites:(It was part of the bargain we all made, the reason we were so willing to die for one another. mine was weel used when i got it and worked fine but birds at 75 would have been hard for me with such a small light gun but i just wanted a food getter out to 25 or 30 for my long trips. just my opinion but i swear the .22 was invented for the red dot scope. just had to wait 100 years.

Yeah I missed getting one by an hour? This will not float like the Henry will and to me they are apples and oranges. I will say the standard 10/22 on sale is $20-$40 cheaper on sale than the Henry is too. This is looking like a great gun, we shall see if....please report back when one of you guys get yours, will do same. Thanks.Originally posted by WiseOwl View PostAnyone see the new Ruger 10/22 Takedown?

What ever will work for you is worth the effort.
LOL I agree. These are good too, maybe and option for the Henry if willing to mod or have a different model or vintage?http://www.tech-sights.com/Originally posted by hayseed View Postjust my opinion but i swear the .22 was invented for the red dot scope. just had to wait 100 years.
Maybe the Savage Mark 2 or the Marlin 925/917/980/981/XT The factory rails look to be the same size might be a good option to try if you have on or know some one who does?
Another option would be the rail adapter to mount other sights or optics?
3/8 to 7/8 Weaver picatinny
OR.... This stuff looks way better than what we have been using.
