  • New WASR

Well after procrasting for a while I bought a Century WASR today. It has a gold colored stamp on the lower right of the reciever which says 50th aniversary Century Arms & 1 of 50.
I had went in to the gun shop to see how much they could get an arsenal sgl21 for. They had 3 new WASR on the rack.
So after checking with the Queen & head of finance, I spent $678 for the gun, 2mags, bayonet, & 100 rounds of ammo.
So now I need to get a sling, some more mags, and be looking for a scope mount (it has the bracket already). Also start stockpiling ammo.
I would kinda like it to be zero at 200yrds. so should I sight it in at 15yrd or 25??? I need to find a ballastic table.
Anybody got a good source of cheap ammo?
Now if the snow in the canyon will melt I can go shoot. Come on spring time.
Survival question. What do I need most, right now?

Cool! As I have said before, if I wasn't so vested in FAL & AR after all these decades, I would go the AK route...

I've always had good luck zero'ing AK's at 100 yards. Some like to zero at 25 though. Their will be some holdover at 200 with iron sights, not much but holdover never the less.

Did you get a sight tool? Definitely a must with WASR's. I heard from Spock that some of the newer Romanians have actual new barrels, which may help with the canted gas tube and canted front sight issues Century was having with some of the older ones (I've owned 2 like that).

An AK magazine well should have some SLIGHT play in it. What I mean is this- insert an EMPTY magazine, turn the gun upside down and vertical- mag sticking up. With slight side to side finger pressure the mag should rock SIDE TO SIDE. Definitely NOT front to back.

The tightest I've seen are the Arsenals, so tight on the "circle 10" Bulgarian Waffle mags you ought to load no more than 28.

The WASR's are the sloppiest I've seen. My nephew's actually jammed when the magazine was used as support in the prone position. This of course was right after I told him NOT to use the magazine as support but then an "instructor" told him sure it won't jam.... I told the guy- "he's got a sloppy mag well, it's gonna jam." Sure enough, it did.

These are the "little things" you want to find out now that a lot of people don't bother finding out till later.

            Oh the Aim $9.95 mags....

So I bought a "few" of these ;) while they were on sale for $7.95 a while back. I've had two magazine related feed jams- slow or dead spring, with them.

This is EXTREMELY UNCOMMON in metal, military 30 round AK mags.

Thanks about the tip on the loose mag well, it's actually pretty snug with the two that came with it. Just a slight side to side.
No I didn't get a sight tool, I'll add it to the list.
I also didn't get a cleaning rod. Necessary? I have several others.
The barrel is new, and I checked the sights with a straight edge, they appear to be aligned.
I went for a walk up a local canyon last week and shot it it was right on at 20yards. I The trigger is very smooth on this one. I asked the guy as the store if it was a 2 stage, he said no but called it a tactical trigger.
              Any preferred scope mounts?
I'm very pleased with the gun. I haven't been to the range yet as the road is still snowed over. Come-on warm weather.

Several places are selling no-name sight tools from our good friend China. They are a POS that will bend and/or break when used on a tight (as most are) sight.

Spring for a TAPCO. They sell for around $20 (price varies a bit) and are built like a tank.
