  • SBR?

Anyone have a short barrelled AR? I just recieved my paperwork in to register a SBR. I'm gonna go with a 10.5" bbl. when I get my stamp in and am gtg. What are your thoughts if any on the pros/cons of these rifles. I think it will be a great, fast rifle for close quarters. I'm looking forward to taking one a a hog hunting stalk in some thick brush when I get everything in order.

I'm also taking suggestions on optics for the little thing. I already have an acog on my primary AR. I was thinking either iron sights or Aimpoint. Maybe a micro? What do you think?

    Thanks

Cons are increased muzzle flash, lower velocities, it takes some work getting the gas system right sometimes and I would check your game laws carefully on using a class 2 or 3.
IMO the ACOG is overkill on that short a barrel and the zones wont line up properly for distance, i would just get a dot

The 10.5 is somewhat temperamental. Go with the VLTOR A5 buffer tube combo. You can feel the difference in the cycling of the gun. I've used the 10.5 enough to like the 11.5 better. The extra duration of the gas impulse really smooths the weapon out.

Im running a Spikes Tactical 10.5", 1 in 7 twist and chambered 556. I Went through 2 magpul classes with no problems what so ever. Over 1000 rounds each class.

I picked up an Novesky Diplomat upper used. its 556 chambered and has a 9 inch barrel. there is a reason it came with the flaming pig comp on it (krink style). I took it off and started having reliability problems. Put it back on and it worked fine. It needs the extra back pressure from the pig (krink break) to run the gas reliable. The spikes runs a bird cage and I supress it as well.
I have not supressed the novesky 9 inch.

For sights I keep it light and little. I run a aimpoint T-1 combined with MBUS flip ups. I also run an aimpoint compM2 just like the M2 better for no specific reason other then Ive had them a while. But the T-1 is the poop for SBRs, small, compact, and reliable.

Here she is wearing an acog I was playing around a bit with. Thats a 14.5 inch barrel next to it.

Im using the spikes ST-T2 heavy buffer

Well, I got my stamp in yesterday! About a six month wait. It was like Christmas when I got home from work and saw the form. We will see how she runs. Thanks for all the input.

Very nice! I want one. I don't know what you use of this "rifle" will be but what ever it is please remember that the effectiveness of the 5.56/.223 round is all based off of speed. The shorter barrel mean less speed.

Been doing alot of research and noticed there is a big reason for re-appearance of 7.62 NATO in all of the NATO armies. Basically the shorter barrells were leaving the 5.56 lacking when distances grew or if the enemy was using light cover.

Well. I ended up running a RR 10.5" upper. It has a birdcage on it. I ended up putting a AIMPOINT micro on it with a LaRue mount, Troy BUIS, a LaRue flip to the side QD mount for a PVS -14 (JRH enterprises) and also a dual IR laser on it. I killed two large hogs with it and have around 500 rounds through it with no cleaning. I haven't had any FTFs, HOWEVER......
I have ran H&K mags, Troy battle mags and P mags. The Troy battle mags were the worst. I had to hit the forward assist several times to get the bolt to sit properly, the P mags were second, they needed a light tap on the forward assist. The H&K mags ran flawlessly, needing no forward assist at all. It doesn't make any sense to me, but that's the truth. I've had double feeds with the Troy mags on 14.5" and 16". ARs. The others ran fine. Overall it's a good rifle and with proper mags and ammo, I trust it. Bring it on you commie AK lovers!!! Ha ha!

And oh yeah. Tore up a 5" target at 100 yrds. It's really accurate for an SBR, I was surprised and impressed.

You could try an H or H2 buffer on the P Mags to see if that helps. If you're running a standard carbine buffer the actions might be cycling too fast for the mags to feed.

Or try a Springco Blue spring as well. Sounds like your action spring might not be working the best

Thanks a lot. I've got a H2 buffer ordered and stouter springs. I'll give em a whirl.
