  • Todays Range Session

So with the blessing of the House Queen, I went to the indoor range this AM, I took my ruger 22-45 for some back to basics & fun. Since I was the first and only customer, the owners hadn't turned on the heat yet, so I was glad that I wore warm cloths as it was 50 degrees inside. I needed some practice with work gloves & down vest on anyway.
So I did fairly well for not having shot much in the last year. At 50ft I was consistently shooting a bit high with my strong hand, and low and left with the weak hand. But doing double taps (strong hand only) I was closer to right on with the first shot & second was a bit high. Maybe more concentration on front sight for 1st of the double tap?
Anyway it was a good session as it was necessary to get back into practice & work in the cold.
I did'nt try anything fancy like quick mag changes, I have never liked how the mags fit in the 22-45. But I did work with gloves on the full time which was enlightening in it self.

I think everyone should get out and practice in cold weather clothing/gear.
    Happy shooting.
Survival question. What do I need most, right now?

Awesome, sounds fun! We shoot no matter the weather. The ranges are always less crowded and we shoot IPSC no matter the holiday, weather etc. The only exception is lightening and we try and ride it out.

That is great that you made it to the range today. I went today as well with my girlfriend. We try to go once or twice a month for a girl's day of shooting and then lunch. We kept it short today as I had forgotten my loader and I am a weinie when it comes to loading my mags by hand.

Forgive me for asking a dumb question, but is the 22-45 a handgun or rifle? I noticed you said you had your target set at 50 ft, and that seems a little far for handgun practice. LOL, I tend to keep my target closer in for my handgun practice. Although I am sure it would do me some good to practice with farther distances.

This past weekend I went with the same girlfriend and her husband and took the AR out. Her husband is helping me get up to speed on the AR before my upcoming classes. LOL, after only an hour I was completely exhausted both physically and mentally. I cannot imagine what a two day class is going to do to me.

Anyway, it is nice that you had the time to get out and do some range practice in. Does your wife go with you often? My husband and I don't get to go together much, I wish we could however.

        Thanks for the encouragement.
Matt yeah I don't like lightening much myself, I can't get to the outdoor range until the snow melts off the access road.
SC the 22-45 is a semi-auto .22 handgun. It has a bull barrel and fells like a larger caliber as far as weight & fit go. And I don't know why I put 50ft it should have been 10yards. My wife doesn't go at all, she has shot a little but doesn't like it. I have taught her basic gun safety & am slowly trying to change her mind. Where are you taking the class?

In March I am taking a rifle class at Insights Training in Bellevue, and then in the fall I am taking another rifle class at Thunder Ranch in Oregon. I have taken classes at both schools before and have learned a lot. I still consider myself a novice. Some days at the range I do better than others. Today not as good as other days as I found myself jerking the trigger quite a bit. I did notice, however, that when I slowed everything down and just focused on breathing and a nice slow and even trigger press I did better.
