FTF in an AR

A friend of mine handed me his Olympic Arms carbine AR-15 and told me he has an unusual problem. To make a short story long It seems that the rifle functions perfectly with only one type of bullet, the Remengtion 55gr fmj. I experimented and shonuf any other "shape" bullet will not fully strip out of the mags (I tried different mags and the effect was the same) the bullet tip seems to jam aginst the locking lugs on the receiver. The Remengtion bullet has a more rounded nose. I just wanted to throw this out to see if there might be some tips or tricks to help with his problem.

The feed ramps on the lug need to be polished possibly. There are several cheaper ARs that dont even have correctly angled ramps or it doesnt correctly mate up and there is a gap that catches the bullet tip. Not saying thats it but thats where i would start.

Bought a couple of P-mags today and polished a burr lip off the feed ramp. I have cycled about twenty rounds thru by hand and it has not jammed yet. I will not say it is fixed until I have run it thru the paces at a range. Thanks feller.

I took the OLY out to shoot today and the only FTF was when you use the charging handle,I could lock back the bolt and hit the release and have no problem. the gun cycled fine while shooting and even shot straight. Someone told me to check the recoil tube and spring for dirt,rust or even being bent that this will cause FTFs more in the carbine models.Well guess what?? the spring was rusty (not bad)and there was crud in the tube!I cleaned the spring and tube and lubed the whole mess, now the gun runs great. The rifle will make a great plinker but after working on an Olympic I would not use it as a main battle rifle. It seems to be to senitive to dirt and abuse and I discovered even tho it is stamped 5.56 cal it is chambered to the .223..That is not nice!

Yep, OLY ARMS is very low on my AR list... I owned a OLY barrel once, back in the 90's, and it too was a failure-prone barrel. Swapped it with a Colt barrel and all problems went away... I too wouldn't TRUST that carbine for anything serious-minded...
