  • Krylon or Duracoat?

So I have a "plastic" Frame hand gun coming in (FNP-9). The frame is black but I like the look two tone color right now and would am wanting the frame to be Flat Dark Earth or maybe even OD Green while leaving the slide and controls black.

I have heard nothing but good things about Duracoat (other than applying it) and have heard mixed results about the Krylon.

Anyone have experience with the two and really how much easier is one than the other to apply and how well will Krylon hold up on the frame?

    Thanks,

Hey go with krylon fusion I have used on a 30-06 that is mattinoklahoma's what you need you do is buy the krylon fusion black after you have prepared the frame for paint spray 2-3 coats on the frame. The first coat should be a light coat just enough to lightly dust it. Then cover well with 2 coats. Once it is covered with the fusion black use your choice of Color and cover till black is no longer visible. And you will be good to go. Mattinoklahoma is going to post up pics of his .06 I did and its been tested in the field and help even on rough areas. Any questions let me know
Whats the point of having and not knowing how to use? You dont have a car and not know how to drive it do you? Having the tools for the job is worthless with out the knowledge of how to use it!

i used krylon camo tones for my plastic/composite stalk on my 10/22. its held up great so far. i dont expect it to last forever. if i did, i would expect duracoat to last longer.

Why the Krylon Fusion? I was wanting to go with the Rust O Leum ultra flat for rust protection. My concern is for rust protection, what would you all suggest?

The krylon fusion is made for plastics or synthetics. The rust o leum is a good choice for the metal but I would suggest using the krylon BBQ and stove paint as I did as your base due to the temperature increase from heavy fire cycle. You need a high temp paint as a base once your have applied your bases such as the krylon fusion and BBQ/stove paints you can use any type of paint to spray over it. Its just essential that your first coats get a good adhesive to the surface of the object.

That's the first explanation I have heard that makes sense. Thank you friend. Fusion for plastic, and BBQ for metal, and paint to match :) KISS simple :)

well can't find it. I know we discussed this before and it prompted me to go ahead and do my rifle. Sharpshooter has the right combos down for longevity and durability as far as the paint goes

a friend of mine has done 4 guns of mine and they all look awesome. He did my 30.06 3 years ago and when I looked at MIO's version I thought they were the same rifle. Only things on mine different is the scope on mine is black, and the flora in NC is different from OK. He also did two keltec sub 2000's for me and a saiga 12. The 20 round mag on the saiga looked the best. and I say looked, because in my infinite wisdom I traded the shotgun for a popup camper. krylon is the way to go. If you get a scratch in it, just hit the gun with another coat. cant do that with duracoat. Just make sure you dont use the cheap spray paint. Fusion is the way to go.
