  • Saiga vs. AK Question

I'm currently going through the latest J&G Sales flyer and one of the new items for this month are Saiga rifles (not the shotguns) Since there are photos, I can't help but notice the similarity to the AK clones they're selling.
    Front Sight
    Rear Sight
    Mag Release
    Action Cover

These are all the same as a "standard" AK.

My question is what about the insides? Are they the same? Right now a 7.62x39 Saiga is much cheaper than the least expensive AK they're selling, and if they're the same internally it would make sense to grab one before they go up in price.

BTW, I've read that the market is currently satuated with the Saiga rifles, which is why they're so cheap. If you're interested in one, I'd suggest you act on it soon before the warehouses start to empty out and the price goes up.

    Thanks, Peter

They are great rifles made in the same factory side by side with the Russian military versions. It will cost around $100 and a hour worth of your time to convert it back to normal pistol grip configuration. I absolutely love mine.

So they do sell kits to convert it back to the pistol grip style?

Not actually having seen one personally, I would guess that the buttstock will just swap out. And fitting the pistol grip would require a drill. Not sure you'd need a kit to do that.

I remember them saying that Saiga conversions were a huge part of the Red Jacket business

Not so much a complete kit as just buying the parts you want and doing it. here is a link for the conversion process.
