  • Henry survival .22

I have one that I bought mainly for fun. Is this a legit survival rifle , or should I continue to use it as novelty item? Thoughts and opinions please.

They are great little rifles if you realize that they are emergency/survival tools, not primary weapons. I'd keep it as truck or trunk gun or in your BOB. The .22 is probably going to be the most useful round for both harvesting food and protection in a post-SHTF environment.

While a .22 LR isn't a combat cartridge, would you want to be shot by one? It kills more people annually than any other round according to the statistics.

I've noticed mine jams about once every ten shots, is there a way to clean this up, and with the barrel insert being thin will it hold up?

I have been debating buying one of the Henry brand. I had an early Charter Arms AR7 and it jammed constantly and never could get it to shoot two mags without a FTF or FTE, so I am a little gun shy [pardon the pun :) ] about buying a new one.

The jam is easy to clear in the Henry , and the accuracy is dead on. I can drive a nail at 25 to 30 yards no problem.

The original rifle was the real deal. Unfortunately these later models are not up to the standards of the ones issued to pilots in Vietnam. I had an early one and it was great. Made the mistake of selling it and then buying another one and it was not so good. Got with my gunsmith and he maybe got it fixed.

I have a Henry Survival .22 and a Marlin Papoose. My Henry works just fine if you run it wet like an AR15. The Marlin Papoose is the better gun all the way around and a great alternative to the Henry in my opinion.

Apparently they still make it in stainless. These really are good rifles. Much more robust and reliable than the Henry.
