  • B.O.B. rifle..Keltec Sub2000 follow-up

This is a one year follow-up/review of the Keltec Sub2000 in 9mm Glock17 format. I bought one for my wife about a year and half ago and was so impressed that I bought another one for myself two weeks later.

    For general information, the Sub2000 in offered in Glock17 9mm, Glock19 9mm, Beretta 9mm and S&W 40mm formats.

After firing over 1000 rds through one and over 2000 rds through the other, I am happy to report that they have performed flawlessly. I have not experienced any issue whatsoever! It appears to feed all brands of ammo that I have thrown at it.

It fits our needs for a B.O.B. rifle very well. Our side arms are Glock17s (9mm). I like that both our side arms and our rifles use the same mags. With 3-17 rd mags and 2-32 rd mags in the B.O.B., it gives you 117 rds of 9mm. At a folded length of only 16 inches and 4 pounds, it fits in my B.O.B. or can hang under a jacket from a shoulder strap. Great concealment potential. If you were to have to scavage for ammo, 9mm is probably the most common you would encounter and have the opportunity to gather.

In close quarters, you would always reach for your sidearm. To reach out and touch someone/thing, you must unfold the rifle to use it. Unfolding and locking takes maybe 2 seconds.

Is it as accurate as my 223 with a scope? Nope, never, not even. But is it not trying to be an AR15 either. But at a list of $299 (bootlegs at $300-350), it is a lot of bang for the buck in my opinion.

Even though the rifle has folding plastic sights, I have found it to be very, very accurate. At 100 yards, I can place rounds within a paper plate all day. At 200 yards, by aiming about 15 inches high, I can hit body mass consistantly.

There are several after market options out there to make yours a bit different or more comfortable. On the pics below, you can see where I have "played" with both of mine.

For what these were designed to do, I find them to be a great performing rifle at a reasonable price. I'm willing to bet my life on one.

I hope you find this review useful.

I have thought about this time and time again. I'm about ready to pull the trigger on one now

I bought one on a whim...I love it and the wife loves it. I have only fired it up to 25 yds. free-hand and it is on-target. The sights are easy to see. You can't use ear muffs when shooting it as you are lying on the stock, but ear plugs fix that. I may have to get another, as she has claimed that one as hers. Uses my Glock mags and feeds reloads without problems.

Does anyone have any experience with the KelTec SU 16? (.223)

I like mine a lot. I have the 33rd glock mags and they add enough weight to make it feel more solid.

We got 2 of the 32rd glock mags put the rail on and the sling. Only problem I have is its short for me to hold up to look through the sights so I'm just going to add a laser to the rail. Gf loves holding it freestyle firing 1rd to see where its going then has fun. She tears up a plate size target at 25yrds. I do the same but I move to much.

Any problems with aftermarket magazines? Like the Mec Gar or Promag?

Mine has a G19 frame to match my carry pistol. I have used it extensively with the factory Glock magazines in both 15 and 33 rounds as well as the uber inexpensive Korean (KCI) magazines in both sizes. I haven't tried the 17 rnd G17 mags. The mags I have used are flawless. The KCI followers aren't as nice and will tilt when loading if you aren't careful, but once loaded they've been fine. I have put an AK-47 side rail mount on the right side of the forearm (backwards- the mount slides on from the front so that the scope clears the rear sight) with a red-dot on a quick release. Most of the time I shoot it with the open sights. I've added the tube cover and the recoil buffer which make it nicer to shoot. The recoil with the bare metal tube against my cheek was jarring. Hung on a single point sling under a jacket as a backup to my 19 it will be a great little carbine when I can't or don't want to carry a rifle.

I have been wanting one of these for a GHB. I think one in .40SW would be a very formidable defensive partner.
