  • Better WAy Too Carry hotgun Shells???

I use a bandolier to carry shotgun shells for my Mossberg in case I have to "go out the door at 2 A.M."

Is there a better way - perhaps some sort of vest?

A sidesaddle is a real good addition for 6 extra shells, the uncle mike buttstock carrier holds 5 that plus what you have in the gun should be ample for short term and wont require you to grab anything extra. I carry buckshot in the sidesaddle and slugs in the uncle mikes so even at "2am" I know what I'm putting in there.
Longer term I use pouches like these on my vest I have one of these http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/MOLLE307-1.html and one from blackhawk.

+1 on this. I have several of these. They also work on a regular belt/duty belt. Bandoleers never worked for me either.

I carry extra shotgun shells in a messenger bag. I have shotgun shells, a good knife, SOG multitool, bottle of water and a first aid kit with GSW kit. Hangs right next to my shotgun. I can just slip it over my shoulder as I grab my shotgun.

I feel is protects the shotgun shells better then a bandoleer plus has room for some extras I might need.

On my mossberg I have a Mesa Tactical side saddle 6 shot shell holder. Never had a problem with loose shells in 5 years theat I had it, there are some valid reports of this happening. Also have a Tac star six shell holder on my 870, not bad but not the quality of the mesa.
I also have a tactical taylor shotgun pouch/s for my battle belt/grab and go bag/riggers belt. I have also used the +2 shell adaptors with success as well, some people like them some dont.
In some non formal training I found out those cheaper then dirt 12 ga. bandolier slings SUCK... They get in the way of weapon handling,to heavy, coumbersome, messes with functioning (driving) the shotgun. The elastic on the belt bandoleer I bought (Walmart) gave way a few monts after some moderate use with informal range training and I junked it as well. This is my expierence with those two items, others may have varried and to be honest it was chinese crap, should have known better...I lived and learned. I do need to take some formal shotgun training classes, this is a big gap in my self defense training.

another thing I can add on what not to get is a sling that holds rounds. You run then suddenly stop and take a shot the weighted sling throws you off.

My two clads worth. I took a tactical shotgun course a few years ago. The instructor told me to put my shells in the same place every time for reloads. If you get accustomed to putting them in your r/f pocket, put them there only. He proved the point by running us through several practice drills quickly until we ran out of shells. All of us were reaching into our pockets to get shells that weren't there...muscle memory. My point being, if you are going to carry a bandolier, keep it with the gun and take it with you or you may reach for reloads that aren't there.
