Went to the range on sat and sunday, my friend is trying to get me into shooting 22lr at 200yds. The range generally is 100yds on saturday and 200yds on sunday, but this sunday it went to 300yds. We shot 22s on saturday at 100 and i shot a 10-22 that i built for the wife with federal bulk 550 pack ammo. It would group about 4.5 or 5 inches in a light wind. Gary (my friend ) said to try his ammo, and it shot much better, 2 -2.5 inches. both 10 shot groups as that is what the magazine holds. He told me it came from walmart and i looked it up on the net, FederaL 22lr 40 grn Auto-match it comes almost bulk in a 325 count box. The walmart number is 00998411. Check it out i think you will be pleased,he said that not all of his guns liked it but more than half prefered it to most of his other stuff.

The Walmart Remington bulk pack has always been pretty inconsistent velocity wise in my experience. The slightly higher tier bricks having more consistent velocity allows you to actually find out which one your .22 likes best. Part of the fun/frustration with .22 is going through this process. You normally end up with bricks of several different kinds, depending on how many .22's you happen to own.
Sounds like fun shooting! Glad you got to get out!

At those ranges you are using a long rifle. Have you had a chance to try the ammo with a hand gun yet? Blazer ammo works quite well for me with both a rifle and a hand gun. But I'm always willing to try new ammo when using for target or small game shooting. Good thread! If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.

From my experience, each gun will shoot different with each ammo brand. What is a tack driver ammo in one gun will be all over the place in another gun.
The trick is finding the ammo that works the best in your gun. Not find ammo that will shoot great in all guns.

Hand guns are not allowed at the counties range. That being said i go to a friends range about every month about 1 1/2 hours north of here where i can shoot hand guns. Its been a long time since ive shot the ruger std 22. I will make it happen next time i go north. I put an AMT ss bull barrel on it years ago and it needs the plastic rear sight that came on it replaced with a steel adjustable sight. The one that ruger puts on their bull barrel guns will fit and ruger has all this type of parts on the web site now. I got to order one today.

I have a friend here who is blind. His wife likes to shoot, so he goes with her to fix stuff he can. (The guy does most of his own DIY mechanic work, like oil changes, etc.) Anyway, I was with them one day, and he commented that the Remmington Golden Point ammo we were using was not consistent within the box. He could hear the difference in the rounds. i.e. some were hotter than others. That was the cheap Wally World stuff. I use it for plinking, but for hunting it would be CCI. The obvious question here is how hard is it to be consistent when loading that stuff? I know it's all done by machine, but come on....
