As I said in a post last week I have an SKS I'm about to setup for a 30rd mag. Today it hit me! the "duckbill" mags pose a risk. how do you keep them in an ammo belt? If I set them in upright water and dirt can get it. but the duckbill will stick out and not get in the way. If I put them in an ammo bag they lay flat but all the wight is pulling from that one or two bag's. If I try to put them top down the bill will not fit or may get stuck. I am about to look online to see in there is a way I can do a mod for AK47 mags. But I felt it was best to ask hear first. Thanks you, John1929

By the time you go through all of the trouble to mod the SKS, you could have bought an AK that was deigned for them in the first place. The duckbills are also notorious for their lack of reliability...yes, yes, I know - some folks have got them to work. Now USE them and see how long before you wish you had the 10 round box mag back in place.

My thoughts would be, to just stick with stripper clips and practice to become proficient with them, and save up for something like an AK. I've seen some folks in practical competitions that could reload with stripper clips very fast, and could hang in there pretty well with detachable mag shooters.

Thank for your input guy's! I got my sks in a swap and it came with mags but had not been set up yet. I would love to have an AK47 but with money the way it is I think I will get some more clips. I saw alot of hafe a## ways of mag mod's. Few seem safe seeing how most of the mod parts are PLASTIC! For now I will keep the sks the way it is and keep stocking up on food and more.
