Time to Camo Your Guns

Considering the negative economic climate and the Anti Constitutional legislation being signed, I believe it is time for preppers to start camouflaging their guns. If you have not done so, now is the time.

I have been contemplating camouflaging my guns for years. It looks cool and is a practical thing to do for preppers. But the thought of doing a poor job held me back. Finally I got around to doing it. This video shows my Rock River LAR 8 (.308 Win - 7.63 NATO) before and after camo.

It's not that hard to camo, and it looks cool. If I get a good response and time, I might do an instructional. There are plenty of really good vids and sources of info on how to camo.

Camouflage certainly has it's place, but I fail to see the connect between economics, legislation and simply camo-ing weapons. Much akin to wearing multicam because taxes went up.

Better to spend the time practicing instead of painting.

Sorry you don't get the connect. Painting a gun is as much symbolic as it is practical. As a prepper, it is a good idea to camo a gun. As the economy collapses, and legislation gets overbearing, most preppers start accelerating their efforts. Just like the three B's are symbolic of the items one needs to prepare (indirectly literal), so too is camouflaging a gun.

In my martial arts courses, I teach combat pistol, shotgun, and carbine. I practice several times a week live fire. Practice is critical but so is getting gear, equipment, and other supplies ready - camo is just one of those steps. I have contact with hundreds of preppers, and they got the message. So I say to you, "keep on prepping" or start prepping if you are not already. It's time to camo your guns. Thanks for the reply.

I think I know exactly what you are talking about sir.....I just wish I had one to camo because I would figure out how to paint in digital or make it "magic eye" like.....

As a matter of fact just this morning i was reading an article describing how the USMC marksman paint their rifles! The Marines seem to prefer Krylon and use tree branches or cammo netting sections to get the patterns. PP keep up the info, thanks.

Me personally, I like my Black Rifle to be FLAT BLACK, like it comes...

I understand camo, it has its place, but from my observations of others in camo in the boonies, in the DAYLIGHT in MY ENVIRONMENT, a camo person with FULL GEAR is not that HIDDEN, and a flat black rifle won't be a big issue. I never saw a big difference between a camo gun and a flat black gun when hidden in brush. At NIGHT, that flat black rifle disappears. But if I was in Arizona or some sandbox, I would see the benefit.

Plus, I too think I might screw it up... As non-artistic as I am. But I do have some paint stashed away for use if the need & benefit are seen.

Camo can help conceal a person and their gear. I am not done with the rifle I showed in the video. That is a base camo job and will be changed to suit the environment. Also I will be adding some netting with died burlap to the gun, as well as foliage.

I have been putting camo off for a long time, because I also thought that I would screw it up. So I started practicing on other objects even an old ice chest. If you do screw it up, its messy but you can take the paint off or shoot over it.

I am going to camo all my weapons (except handguns). It's actually fun. Thanks for the comment.

Thank you. I hope you get something to camo soon. I have not done digital, but may try it. Almost all my BDUs are Woodland and a few ACU patterns. I love digital and multicam but it can be more expensive to buy multicam BDUs, packs, etc. I guess I am old school woodland. Digital and multicam may offer advantages in many environments.

I believe it is not too hard to paint digital patterns and might try it. There are plenty of how to videos on camo out there and someone might have instruction on it. I believe I could do it, by creating rectangle patterns and painting over them.

I contemplated duracote and ceracote, etc. The problem with those processes, although they provide a superior finish as far are durability, is the cost, amount of work, and most importantly, the difficulty of changing the color. Once you paint the high-end camo it is hard to make changes. Especially in the field.

The Marines, and other snipers, will paint the gun to match their environment. With Krylon, all you have to do is spray a little different color over your base to match that environment.

Always be sure to use a flat paint and not spray it too wet. You do not want shiny spots. Thanks for the comment.
