Son, your attitude bespeaks lack of experience in proper long range shooting. I happen to use a Horus equipped 300wsm AR-10 with a custom barrel. If you know that system you must know that it wins most sniper competitions- for a reason. No spotters just a grid system that works better than most systems. Yes, I point of fact I have shot NRA 1,000 yards with my own made rifle, sling held, iron sights, and my own self rolled ammo. AMU was so impressed they asked me to join them---you??? Learning to roll your own is a must in a SHTF scenario and a question for you: Why is the 5.56 not a one round perp stopper in the Sand Box??? You have the option to pick your own weapons but what I select is based on How many, Wwhat distance, dark or light as my opening questions before selecting a weapon. Have a weapon for each scenario.. My preference is to keep any and all ducking for cover at 1,200 yards where the mouse gun is a joke. What do you know about the twist rate as it effects bullet performance on target??? What changed from the Nam twist and why. Please do tell.

You will be doing ZERO practice firing, because the blasts will be drawing in your killers. Really, at some point things may stabilize, single shots are hard to hone in on and shots can be muffled effectivly especially after PAW
With a little bit of sense, you will need only a very few rds of .22lr to survive shtf just fine, guys. Livestock, dogs, small game, even deer and men will fall to properly placed .22lr hits, if fired from a rifle, and especially if swift repeat shots strike the chest, after the head hit has rocked his world.
Maybe but most likely not, never been to a country that was taken over or fell apart where a 22 made the day yet, I have taken alot of game and worked alot of shootings with the 22 and it is effective but I wouldnt limit myself to it. If i could only have one gun it probably would be a 22 though

also, the size of your group doesn't mean much of anything. Your 2" group at 500 yds can easily be 10"
off target, due to spin drift, heat mirge, wind and a host of other factors. A 308, zeroed at 100 yds, drops over 40 ft by the time it reaches 1000 yds. If you zero at 1000 yds, you will hit about 25 ft high at 600 yds, did you know that? :-) 1000 yd zero, you havent ever done much LR shooting have you? You dont zero at 1000, you move the scope sight to 1K
Long range shooting is mostly bs, and luck, and unnecessary. LOL just because you are not trained, skilled or know the why's doesnt mean everyone isnt
Without a sandbagged bench rest, wind flags, and "spotter" shots, just getting reliable hits on men's torsos at 600 yds, with a battle capable autorifle, is quite a feat, and quite far enough to make you safe from enemy retaliation. 223 AR 15's manage nice hits at 600 yds, every weekend, at NRA bullseye matches.
There are a few thousand folks in sand country and many retired who are professionals who dont have flags that would disagree with you and no the first shot doesnt always make contact but that doesnt mean they just quit either, check out the longest shot made it took 2
        Got anything useful or encouraging?

Since I will be 75 this year, Good Lord willing, no one on earth or under it, scares me or detracts form what I speak in truth and experience. If I error, it will not be intentional nor with malice unless, naturally, if deemed an commensurate response. Do you suppose we are the only two folks that know the Army is moving to the 6.8-- for a reason and that newly discovered ( Navy stash) M-14's are being upgraded with an aluminum bedding system and new stock-- for a key reason???

Got spammed today, cleaning up the mess now. Now back to the regular programming already in progress....

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"

Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"

Thanks for the Scripture lesson... I never noticed the SEQUENCE before and have taken it to heart as another jem of great value from "The Book."

This is one area I do disagree with you though... While I have over the decades acquired some fine 5.56mm & 7.62mm ammo, back when it was much cheaper than now, I do admit that I have used a lot of Wolf .223 ammo personally, and I know others who have used untold quantity of it... FOR TRAINING. No one has had any catastrophic failures with it (some internet ka-boom accounts are valid) and it has shown itself to be a great TRAINING ammo, allowing us to keep our good ammo for zero verifications and real events. I don't think it possible, with LABOR & TIME calculated in the formula, to handload a CHEAPER training round than the Wold .223 ammo, just to shoot DIRT.

Plus, the one HUGE plus Wolf (and other steel case ammo) has going for it is EASY RANGE CLEANUP... Just walk around with a magnet sweeper and your done... No hen-pecking shooters waddling around picking up every single piece of expended brass...

So for TRAINING and fun plinking, I think Wolf is a good, affordable option...

Thanks for posting your Part 1... Look forward to Part 2.

The most current thinking on steel cased ammo as of today is that for Eastern Block rifles, Ok; however, for AR chambers No! Training or cheap practice, perhaps but I train with what I will use that way no interchange fatal errors are going to happen. Error on the side of your life; what is it worth??
