    Thanks for the replies guys.
Klayton RPD and Benn, thanks for those ideas, real solid all of them, lots of "food for thought"

I took an open approach and have read the responses from this thread to the Mrs. so we'll see. I still have a little time as my resources are not ready for a purchase.
I'll let ya'll know what happens.
A desire changes nothing, a decision changes some thing's, but determination changes everything.

I'm a Mrs. and I am particularly fond of my AR. I really like the pistol grip and collapsible stock. It "looks" a lot meaner than my .270, but the recoil is worlds apart.

I shot a .270 once, and the recoil got my attention! More than a 30-06, for sure.

Definitely! Mine bruises my shoulder every time I shoot it.

My point was my .270 looks more traditional, but it certainly packs more recoil than my "mean" AR. You can't always judge a book by its cover or a weapon by its appearance.

My wife is not a fan of heavy rifles or heavy recoil. She loves her Keltec Sub2000 in glock 9mm. It also takes the same mag as her glock 17 sidearm. I added an internal Tacticool buffer pad that reduces the 9mm recoil to that of a 22 cal. Did I mention that the Keltec folds down to 16 inches and will fit in her B.O.B., briefcase and computer bag?

Agreed Barfife. I could not get my better half to touch an AK or SKS because of weight. I was looking for a good price on a M1 Carbine (good luck on that one), although I did not want to add "one more caliber" to my storage. I purchased a Sub 2K and 5 mags for me, took her to the range and she loved it. Now she has a rifle she isn't afraid of , I have some big mags for my G19, and I didn't have to add another caliber. A win except she will not part with the Sub 2K. Maybe I'll save up for a SU-16?

a great way to get a female on board with an AR is to buy a CMMG .22 conversion kit. I bought one for my bushmaster and it was awesome. It is just the bolt carrier group and different magazine that is the same size as a standard .223 magazine. I have had a couple jams with it but it was ammo related. Let the ladies get confortable with shooting the converted AR. Mag changes are the same, cycling the bolt is the same. safety is the same. Then when she wants to reach out to 300+ yards, pull out the Cmmg BCG, drop in the .223 BCG, change mags and let the lead fly. I would encourage everyone to attend an Appleseed event. They are great at making all skill level shooters comfortable shooting. You are surrounded by like-minded individuals and the setting is very family oriented. I thought it was a great place for my wife who is not always 100% vested in the prepper mindset to meet other normal ladies. Turns out...she is a better shot that I am. :) Also the CMMG allows for cheaper practice, and if your .223 BCG fails for whatever reason after the SHTF then you can use the CMMG and you get to keep slinging lead downrange instead of fixing bayonet.

I liked her 9mm Keltec Sub2k so much I got one for me too! You can hit pie plates at 100 yds and torsos at 175-200 yds (by aiming 18" high) regularly. I ended up trading the Glock 19s for G17s so everything uses the same mags. They now have Sub2k with G19 mags. With a couple of 33 rd and 17 rd mags in your B.O.B., you have a rather large arsonal at your disposal.
