So my son is doing well with his pistol training and I need to get a carry type holster for a Ruger MKII bull barrel that he is training with. Any ideas? Mag pouches for the same?
make one. or get one made. I'd bet your local flea market has some leather craftsman dude who is all about belts, holsters, etcs and could probably make exactly what you want. also something made for a luger or p38 might work too.
Try http://midwayusa.com I have bought various items there over the years and have always been satisfied. Plus, once you buy from them you will automatically get their annual full line catalog free. I have been using Uncle Mike's Sidekick for most of my holster needs, but am slowly upgrading to leather. But, the majority of the leather ones are right handed. I'm a lefty (no wise cracks, please), and Uncle Mikes makes all their models both LH & RH.

I made this holster in an afternoon. The easiest way is to take a paper grocery bag and cut out a pattern, then lay it on the leather and draw it. Make sure you're working on the right side of the leather, which you determine by folding it over to make the holster. I used rivets because I don't have the ability right now to sew leather. I also used glue (Elmo's) along the outer edge. I got the snaps and rivets at Michael's, but they also have them at Hobby Lobby. I don't remember exactly where that piece of leather came from. Note that there are actually two pieces of leather; one for the holster itself, and another strip for the strap that goes around the front. You want to try to avoid putting rivets inside the holster, but I couldn't. (The gun will rub on them as you put it in and take it back out.)
Anyway, if you have questions, ask away. (I thought it would put the picture here, but it didn't. I don't know how to do that yet. The URL will take you there, though.)
I have a suggestion. Don't know if it's the same where you live or not but at the gunshow there is always a guy making Kydex holsters that are nice and pretty inexpensive too. You have to have the pistol with you but he can make it while you wait.
Benn- just saw some guy doing that at a show, great idea. Will try that if nothing else.
I left him hold the G26 thinking that maybe if he could hold it well I'd just find a .22 conversion barrel for it. It didn't work out too well so we'll stick with the MKII for now. He shoots really well with it and it's an accurate weapon so we should probably just stick with that for a while.
I would like to see one of those German AK's in 22 caliber at a show to get to handle one a little bit. $279. is kinda high for that IMO but to get him training on the same gun he'll use when he's older (same manipulations) would be worth it.
