It is not powerful enough for rabbits. Through a rifled barrel, the shotcup spins enough to spread the pattern quickly.
I have used LR succesfully on snakes at five feet, but when trying to cope with a rat invasion in the horse stalls and feed room, I found the LR rounds severely lacking in range, even using a handgun. I swapped the cylinder in my Ruger Single Six and found that CCI 22 magnum shotshells will kill rats very well at ranges of 12 feet, or so.
In the end I went to pelletized bait to solve the problem - I couldn't shoot them all.
I have since bought a couple of boxes of the magnums, because they are hard to find, but have no need for any more LR's.
Now, if you have carpenter bees where you live, I've heard that bee skeet is fun, and the LR's would be perfect for that."There is nothing so exhilarating as to be shot at without result." Winston Churchill

stockpiling, no. I have some for snakes in the boat while trot lining etc. but thats about it. Every so often one will be laying on a branch and their defense is to drop into the water when something approaches but I manage to find the dumb hick bucktoothed inbred snakes that move slow and fall into the boat which seems to give them great energy and astounding speed for retarded reptiles and a 20 rds of 9mm+p just aint no good for that unless you like swimming and explaining. I also have some 9mm shotshell which are good but will penetrate a chicken coop close range, err so I heard just in case dad is reading. I would say no need to even buy 22 shotshell... I DO stockpile a HUGE amount of 22 ammo though (22shorts subsonic for nearly silent snuff work, and 22LR lead for anti-pirates and finally 22LR high velocity for squirrels and rabbits)...
I have found my .410 makes for GREAT rat burgers!

This last fall my FIL was out trying to get squirrels out of his pecan trees and he was using .22 shotshell. The squirrel just seemed agitated and ran off. I went out with a .22 LR and did the job.
I agree with Klayton on stockpiling the other .22 rounds.A desire changes nothing, a decision changes some thing's, but determination changes everything.
