  • AK 47

Sorry Guys not trying to beat a dead horse here - But I just saw a video on you tube that made the statement that Polish made Ak 47s where the best made. I saw in our local gun shoppe that they sell the WASR Ak47 which if I understand right is manufactured in Romania, which this video stated was one of the worst made AKs. any thoughts on this

WASR is either good or bad... Considered the low end of the AK spectrum...

I owned a Romanian SAR-1 that was good, but they too are hit or miss...

Best to buy from someone who KNOWS AK's...

I have zero experience with the Polish ones. Been working with Chinese since I was 15 so I'm just a little bit biased on them.

Romanians..... Rmpl said it well and their is a recent post from a week or two back here in regards to them. Not necessarily always junk, but several things you need to know about to check on them.

What was this fellow's rationale for Polish being "best?"

I have a Norinco and it's well made. I also have a Bulgrarian 74 that nice too.

I have seen WASR's with canted front sights.

So say someone had about 1000 bucks to spend. What manufacturer would one be considering? No add ons just straight out the box. Been looking at arsenal and might even just wait a couple more months for a krebs but not sure if its worth the additional cash. Yes I know I could get a centruy arms ak plus several hundred rounds of ammo but as the saying goes you get what you pay for. I want a mid to high end 47 in 7.62 x 39.

On a side note Im well aware what other arms I could get for that kind of money but this is the platform I have decided to go with.

Didn't realize that was Polish, no wonder the barrel pointed backwards.... YUCK YUCK YUCK!

                  Buktoof-

Right out of the box, commonly available and higher quality- Arsenal.

My only complaints about them stem from being too used to Chinese for too many years....

I own a 1960 Polish AK...heres the difference....most ak receivers are stamped sheet metal..like romanians....the Polish AK's have a milled receiver which makes them stronger and more reliable. The Polish AK I have also has a 1 piece recoil spring guide rod over the standard two wire one. The internal springs and trigger are a better grade also...I don't know about the Polish ones being the best made because I have seen better ones, like arsenals...but a Polish is defintely better than WASR

Polish underfolders are the sexiest ak's available, no comparison! Reliability, my romy is untouchable. Accuracy, thats my chrome bored Yugo that's also scary as **** because they taught and built the first plant for Iraq. Maybe I'm biased because my Yugo also has the grenade launcher. Nah it's just that accurate and looks like what everyone in the freeworld thinks an ak looks like!

What specifically makes the Arsenal any better or worse? I like the SGL21 tactical, but wondering about the weight with the added rails. One of the high points about an AK is the fact it doesn't weigh as much as your typical toyed up tactical M-4gery and is bare bones simple. Typically the weight is upped because of not only the toys, but the added weight of the 1913 rails.

But there are times when toys are nice to have and fairly needed, like lighting and even a red dot, VFG, laser...I can't seem to contain myself. But anyway, why pick an Arsenal over say another WASR or other import?

Plus, I plan to put on a folding stock, so do the Arsenals lend themselves to replacement of the stock as well?

ETA: Not a bandwagon fan of the AK or a tactical ninja. Just recognize the fact it can be concealed far better with a folding stock than your typical AR carbine.
Experience is a cruel teacher, gives the exam first and then the lesson.
