I can pick these up for under $20. Lots of magazines are nice to have.
Less than 5 years ago they were commonly $5, less than $10 for premium Steyr in like new condition...

Now they pull in a premium, if you can even find like new mags anymore...

The REAL problem with .308 is that AMMO is so fracking expensive... Oh how I wished I had more disposable income back when South African cans were less than $200 for 1260 rounds... (crying in sorrow....)

The Remington 750 was not designed for volume shooting. They are hunting rifles designed to fire maybe a box of ammo per season. They are built to tight tolerances for accuracy. The 750 is an improved 7400 (of which I have one in 30-06) which was an improved 740. A fine medium game rifle, but not a combat weapon by any stretch.
I was trained on an M14, (and was later issued an M16) so when I was able to afford one, I bought a used Springfield Armory M1A that was built back when they were still using USGI parts. I personally don't care for Eugene Stoner's design (AR's), but perhaps improvements have been made since I carried one in 1969. I wouldn't know.
Don't overlook the M1 Garand, they are excellent battle rifles.
