  • What things used to be

Cleaning out and pitching some older supplies a box came open with some old paperwork in it.

It included some old Shotgun News newspapers/magazines from 1992.

I was just getting started in adult life then, but damn these prices for Class III stuff! I feel like I should have took out a long term loan, sold a couple kidneys, robbed a bank or something...

I have looked at Class III stuff in a long time, but I do remember maybe 2019'ish seeing a Chinese AK starting at $25K or so on auction. If you look at the prices in the old SGN, that's about 10X the price of it in 1992.

$8500. for a "like new" M60 I believe they are in the $50K range now??

I have no class 3 stuff and honestly as much as I like to shoot, having some would probably bankrupt me in ammo costs! But what a nice investment.

I don't do full auto stuff BUT
I remember when the kids my age in my ohio farm town would drive to Detroit, cross over to Canada, walk two blocks to stores and one entire wall from floor to ceiling was stacked with sten guns oiled and wrapped in newspaper.
Could buy as many as you wanted for $16 each.

Was legal back then and most people who touched guns weren't STUPID.

One's dad bought him a 20mm antitank gun with 400 rounds for $85. Dang that thing was LOUD.

BUT them there be the OLD DAYS when I'd carry my .22 rifle to school and put it in my locker. I kept spare boxes of .22lr there too. After school, I'd hitch a ride to farms and shoot squirrels.

Definitely the good old days! I was born in the wrong time I think!

One time on one of the forums there was a hypothetical question like "if it was 1940 or 50 and SHTF and you have to defend your place" along the lines of what would you use time era correct, etc.

My answer was go buy 40% sticks at the local darn HARDWARE store and plant them everywhere and just blow up everyone that attacked my retreat.

What exactly was the impetus for the Hughes act? Wasn't that the close the MG registry thing? Was it the shooting at the McDonalds in the SW in the early 80s? Figured it had to be something like that that triggered the act getting thru. And Reagan signed it! We love Ronnie for standing up to the Reds, but then there is stuff like this, Rex 84, etc.
