  • Z for Zachariah movie

Heard about this a while back but never saw it coming to any theaters. Probably a good thing.

So it's based off the book Z for Zacharia about the aftermath of a nuclear war and a young girl living in a valley in a farming area. Somehow this valley was safe and no where else was, wind currents, continental shift or some sort of thing.

Evidently her not so bright parents and everyone else decide they are going to leave Hidden Valley Estates and go look for other survivors. Great idea, let's everyone leave and leave two kids here in the apocalypse! Post Apoc Parenting award goes to..... drum roll please...

So her brother is left with her, but "sneaks off" to follow the idiot parents. So she's alone.

In both the book and the movie she's on her own there in the valley for a few years by herself.

After this is where the book and movie split off.

In the book, only 1 guy shows up, wearing a "safe suit" that allows him to be outside the valley in radioactive hell. In the movie a black guy shows up in the space suit and trailer and then later another guy who's white shows up. You know where this is going....

Before too long, one has an "accident" but the story is told to the girl that he left for Valhalla or Anniston, which is the heretofore rumored safe zone located due south of the Candy Cane forest near Gumdrop Lake.

I don't know if the girl buys the story or not, but the movie pretty much ends abruptly after that. So much so I had to re-watch the last couple scenes twice, thinking I had fallen asleep and missed some climatic conclusion- nope, it just ends, kind of like the old 80's film Testament.

Wait for it to hit the $7. DVD section and put the other $6. towards ammo.....

Black guy let the white guy's rope go and he fell off a cliff but amazingly not into the sluice and water wheel they had just put together that he was right above.
