  • current situation - story idea

    just a random thought/encouragement
for tired old man (a new addition here at s+p) or grand or any other great writer(s).

    start with our current events.
russia lining up with iran and syria
president overthrowing egypt and lybia for more radical muslims
large portions of youth in america on a killing rampage.
other countries demanding their physical gold, stored in u.s. and the demands being postponed
us citizens being lied to about debt and its climbing way past the roof
** is this enough to crank up the creativity **
all the questions about obama and how the conservatives won't vote together,.
    inflation cranking up.
taking God out of our schools, courtrooms, gov't buildings
dropping defense of our borders and encouraging illegal immigration
billionaires and multi millionaires leaving the u.s. in droves
    ^^ there's a story line here somewhere^^
    humiliating our military top brass
raising sodomites to a level above straights
us arming alqueda in syria and benghazi and afghan and syria and ??
allowing our ambassador to be killed and saying "what does it matter anyway"
seals being killed across the country
!! i think i see the spark in TOM's eye!!
putin laughing at the u.s. and our president
gov't handouts to the non productive increasing.
obama handing over the reins of govt depts to "devout" muslims.
gun and ammo restrictions and registration and confiscation
calling that which is true a lie and calling the falsehood a truth
christians arrested for sharing their bible and faith
muslims protected and honored by our leaders
-- a classic. a paw novel of all time. grand's considering--
or that literary giant that we don't know ?
china sees american weakness and conquers taiwan
no. korea with chinese help smashes so. korea for all the wealth and industry
pakistan yields her nukes to the growing muslim caliphate
    ## they talk, they write each other... jdyoung coordinates...
a joint venture. each writing a story line based on a different part of the country!!
lowdown, says he doesn't have time... but the story comes alive!!! ahhh...
    a masterpiece...
rawles will be begging to contribute.
written at survival and preparedness.. published and the writers all get rich.. using their riches to build huge family compounds to survive the coming events!! hey, that's a fact jack! their individual compounds could play into the story line. lowdown's would be different than tom's would be different than grand's etc..

or have i just been drinking too much muscadine juice, that has been sitting out and about, that the wife hasn't gotten to yet... ooh that stuff is good. whee!

Sorry RR, I only write fiction ;)

In seriousness, I've used some of the background you listed in the Normal saga and in By Law. Or variations of. The problem is when dealing with current events it's hard to write about them since they are in flux and could go either way. Take Normal for example, the President depicted was a member of the GOP which would have been McCain when the story was written (it was also written before he picked a running mate) so the character was based loosely on current events at that time.

Whoops, November 2008, a day which will live in infamy. Same thing more or less with By Law.

Never easy to write "real world" background since it gets overtaken by real world events.
Experience is a cruel teacher, gives the exam first and then the lesson.

Sometimes you can write generic enough to get by, but most of the time the events you write about tend to be either proved wrong or vary from what you were intending them to be. Tom Clancy is a prime example of this. Most of the things he's written about have worked out a different way. But he's learned to adapt.

Not saying your story lines aren't good RR, just looking at several others things in my own hopper.

But hey, why don't you give it a whirl yourself? I finally sat down and went to it after thinking for a while. Give it a try. Who knows, you could be the next TOM.
