Yes, it's been almost a year since an update on this story. However, there is a reason why. Frankly, I just haven't been feeling it. "Lucky" was originally supposed to be a short story, but grew after I saw how many people took to it. But I frankly haven't been able to concentrate on anything regarding the story. It's just not hit me lately so to speak and I can't find an avenue for the moment that I want to go with. There are a few things, but nothing major I have planned and nothing that's really fleshed itself out in my mind.

I hope those that have waited patiently will continue to wait. It's just one of those things that happens.

I'm locking the thread until I do get it back on track. When it gets back into my head, I'll open it back up.

Just a quick update. I'm finally back on the keyboard so to speak and this one is at the top of my list. However, with Colorado politics getting stupid as of late, I'm in no mood to attempt to continue to write about that place. I am currently revising and changing locations to a more politically...acceptable location. Frankly, I flat refuse to try and shoehorn a story into a place that has taken the individual rights away from its citizens like Colorado has since many of the upcoming parts had items I have no desire to change or attempt to revise. So in changing said background location for the story, I have to go through line by line and change situations, places and ideas as well. So, revision in progress and "Lucky" should be back on track relatively soon. The revision will be different and I'll be removing some of the things I felt weren't really necessary or needed. But the characters and overall background will remain the same. Jim will still be Jim and Beth will still be Beth lol.

So bear with me please. I know some folks have waited a long time for this story and I apologize for not getting into it sooner. When everything gets back to what I want and feel it needs to be, I'll delete this thread and start a new one.

I'm reopening for comments if you would like. And if there are any glaring mistakes in the story posted so far, let me know and I'll correct them before posting again.

You don't have to do a full rewrite, something simple, like giving Jim or Beth some respiratory problems and let them move to northern Nevada or Arizonia. They will need advice on building their new home from an experenced prepper..........

Unfortunately that's one of the "planned" items lol.

I tend to write about places I know for the most part. Thinking Oklahoma is worth a shot is this story. Who knows, maybe even Matt makes an appearance lol

I liked this story when I first read it due to all the information on prepping. However, it did seem to move slowly, and the multiple purchases of similar items, for example, camping stoves, seemed unlikely no matter how much money these two had. The contact with an organized group in California was interesting, and I'd like to hear more about their interactions with people. Also, how did it go with the new dog?

All things that were leading up so to speak. Not going to give a lot away, but what you mentioned would/will come up in later chapters. Specifically the gear stuff. I think we all have been there/done that on purchasing multiple times on the same item so to speak and in the long run say "holy crap, how did I end up with six tents?!" But as Lucky is somewhat of a teaching lesson story, the moral of the story comes in later chapters. As for the group in Cali...yeah, that will come up later too lol.

Lots of ideas surrounding the story and many directions I can go with.

The steely eyed woods-ninja cooly surveyed the couple and their growing dog, it was large, too large to be tactical sized. They seemed like nice enough people, but they were new to prepping he could tell. He was standing a mile away, and they hadn't seen him yet approach them on the obvious path for intruders to take. He could teach them, but first there had to be rules established. His hard set eagle-eyes noticed the slight bulge at the man's 5'Oclock on the right side. "That's not a GLOCK," he whispered frowning beneath a well groomed fu-manchu.
