    Part 15

Todd and Steve left the house, pushing Donnie in handcuffs ahead of them.

Jim asked that Jonas be led out of the room and once he was out of ear shot, he looked intently at Donnie's wife.

"I can't believe you don't have anything to say." Jim said to her. About half the group still sat in unbelief of what has transpired, the other half looked as if they were ready to tear the traitors apart at the drop of a hat.

"Well if you think it was JUST Donnie in on this, your a fool!" Donnie's wife spit out the words vehemently.

"OK, that's good. Listen the last thing I want to do is have to kill a woman, so let's hear some reasons for that not to happen." Jim replied.

"Your good friend Todd was in on this also. He was gonna help Donnie, Jonas and Frank" she said.

"Be more specific, remember your life is on the line here. I'll give you the same offer I gave Jonas, tell the FULL truth and you won't die." Jim said.

"Donnie hadn't told Todd about the other guys yet, he was still figuring out if their was anyone else that would go along with it" she said.

Individuals looked around the room at each other. One or two shook their heads slowly.

Jim said "Lyle, go see Steve please one eight."

Just then 3 shots were heard from outside in rapid succession. Finally another shot was heard after a brief pause.

Everyone scrambled around. The radio crackled "Prisoner is down, everything is o.k." It was Todd's voice on the radio.

Jim picked up the radio. "Todd, Jim, put Steve on asap."

After a couple seconds the radio came back "Jim, Steve come in."

"Lyle one eight over, Christmas?" Jim transmitted.

    "Roger Christmas over." Steve replied.

"That sonofa*** killed Donnie so he couldn't rat him out!" Donnie's wife said as she started crying.

"Everybody sit tight. Bill come with me, let's see what happened." Jim said.

Jim and Bill observed the area where Todd and Steve stood near the body of Donnie for a while before walking over. Lyle was not in sight but Jim knew he wasn't far away.

As they walked up to Steve and Todd, Jim asked "what in the hell happened?"

Steve glanced over quickly at Todd. Steve had his rifle out at a low ready. Todd had reholstered his pistol. Just the look from Steve confirmed it for Jim.

Todd jumped in- "Donnie tried to make a break for it and I shot him. Laughingly he added " Sorry man, I know you were probably looking forward to it."

"Who said we were gonna do a damned thing to him?" Jim said.

Todd replied "well I figured their was no way we could let a traitor live. His wife is probably in on it also. She's probably talking a bunch of crap trying to divide everyone. What are we going to do about her?"

"The better question is what are we going to do about you?" as Jim finished his sentence Lyle stepped out and he and Steve both covered Todd.

"That's a frickin hillarious joke dude! But we have had enough excitement for one day, so let's stop playing around!" Todd said. He was an excellent BS'er.

"One chance bro. Jonas talked and saved his life. You have that same opportunity." Jim said.

"Seriously dude, this is getting old." Todd said..

"Steve, what happened here with Donnie?" Jim asked.

"We got over here and Todd said to grab some extra rope from the OP on the hill there. I started walking up to the hill and next thing I heard Todd saying "he's running!" and then he shot him three times in the back. Then he ran up and put another round in his head." Steve said.

"Dude, that's because he took off, what the hell was I supposed to do?" Todd said.

"Be quiet, only gonna say that once." Jim said as he nodded to Bill.

Bill moved up behind Todd and removed his pistol from the holster and stepped back and to the side again.

With Lyle, Steve and Bill covering Todd, Jim walked over to the body of Donnie. He turned him over and started searching him.

"Dude I TOLD you, he ran and..." Todd was shut up immediately after Jim nodded to Lyle who slammed his rifle butt in to Todd's gut.

"Lookey here." Jim said removing a handcuff key from Donnie's hand. It was the same brand and make used by the group. Donnie would not have access to this.

Todd was doubled over from the hit to the gut, supposedly in a lot of pain. Lyle stood close to him. Suddenly Todd jumped on Lyle knocking him down and attempting to wrestle the rifle from him.

Steve could not get a shot for risk of hitting Lyle.

Bill ran up and drilling his pistol to the side of Todd's head, fired a round. Blood and chunks of skull landed all over Bill and Lyle.

    "That mother....." Lyle said.

"Are you alright?" Jim asked Lyle as they drug Todd's dead body off of him.

"Yeah, just shook up a bit. I didn't think he had that in him." Lyle replied.

"It was a surprise to me too. I figured he would lied for another 45 minutes or until one of us got tired of it and shot him in the head. But I would have said it was me that was gonna have to do that, not Bill." Jim said jokingly but no one was in a joking mode.

Steve, who Jim was beginning to realize was a deeper thinker than he gave him credit for, spoke up. "Do you think anyone else is in on this?"

"I doubt it. If their was and they had any real gumption, they would have acted by now. The problem is we all now how Todd could BS people. Their is probably a "soft heart" that ate up a lot of his crap. That happened once before." Jim said.

"Well it won't happen again." Bill said.

Jim, Lyle and Steve buried the bodies in two separate locations miles from the retreat. The question remained of what to do with Donnie's wife and Jonas.

Their was no way they could be trusted to be kept with the group as normal members. They could be released a good distance away from the retreat and given a few days worth of food. They could also be killed and many would feel this would be fully justified. The other possibility was that they could be held by the group for a few months to see if things got better. This would mean a couple more mouths to feed, but considering the deaths of Donnie and Todd, the numbers would remain roughly the same as far as logistics. Although the last thing Jim wanted to do was to get into the prison business, he saw no other good answer at this point in time. They could always be released at a distant location later on. For now, they could not have that sort of security risk, no matter how far away they dropped them off at.
