Just started "Normal". Grand, are any of your works in print that I could get my hands on?Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.

This is a truly excellent story!
One small query/criticism: I wondered why the families on the ranch would consent to having all but a week's worth of food taken away for "inventory"?
Many had brought their own storage food. While some supplies can be kept in common, such as beans, rice, salt, etc. any family will have some special needs of one kind or another. Food allergies are common and varied, babies and small children have special needs, certain foods interfere with medications, etc. etc. Not to mention, that people also have food preferences. I find chocolate almost essential, yet can't eat milk chocolate b/c I'm lactose intolerant. So, if they spent the money to get the dark chocolate to store, why would the wives willingly give it up? One week of food in the house is not much, especially when weather events such as the blizzard in March, mentioned in the story, can severely shut down even short trips to storage, barns, etc.
This divestiture of food seemed especially unbelievable because the 'Loyalist' .gov was confiscating everybody's food if they had more than 2 weeks, and was a major heads-up and cause of contention to the population of the US.
Just my two cents.

As for special needs and foods, I hadn't really put much thought into that and I know good and well not to get between a woman and her chocolate lol.
