At slightly more than 33,000 feet from the pacific ocean floor to it's nearly 14,000 feet above sea level Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa together have been known as the "Big Island" for 2 centuries. Now, December 12th, 2014 after nearly 5,000 years of only moderate eruptions from Kiluhea and some minor flows of lava, the Big Island had awakened!!
The molecules of what were once state of the art telescopes were 70,000 feet into the upper atmosphere, the once beautiful city of Hilo was completely destroyed and buried under gigatons of firy rock and ash and pyroclastic flows nearly the speed of sound had burned most of the eastern half of the islands life into charcoal and buried it under ash and lava. Nothing had survived the first half hour on that side of the island!
Eruption + 90 minutes; the entire northeastern side of the island broke away about 2,000 feet under water and slid the few miles down to the pacific floor.
Eruption + 128 minutes; Mendocino, Sandiego, Humboldt and the rest of the California coastal county Sheriffs departments begin recieving automated calls from the Pacific Tsunami Early Warning Center warning of the imminent tidal wave. It is expected to arrive in approximatly 19 hours, be moving approximatly 300 miles an hour and to be between 175 and 400 feet tall!
Deputies in the San Francisco County Sheriffs office are watching the alert screen in disbelief. Minutes later they begin to hear and watch the footage of the eruption from a Norwegian cruise ship 50 miles off the west coast of the Big Island in panic stricken horror. Chaos erupts as the officers begin to evacuate the office to retrieve their families. A young member of a particularly vicious homosexual contingent of MS13 overhears the conversations as he is also watching the large screen tv and quietly makes his way towards the front door. No one notices him leaving in the confusion.
Eruption + 2 1/2 hours; all the footage had spread to the internet in minutes so the news from the sheriffs office from his sargent had not surprised the "Capone". After some heated but very short debates the gang bangers had decided their only hope was to hijack a freifgt train headed east over the Sierra Nevada. 186 doped up and heavily armed gang members had overwhelmed the crew in short order and made it clear. "Get us outa here or die!" Their destination? The new defacto San Francisco East, Laramie Wyoming!
