I'm doing a metal roof on a house. 2 problems

I thought I must have super wimpy skin.
I've gotten several metal cuts that have surprised me.
so far a little home treatment has worked fine, but one of them looked bad for a while.

    2nd thing is the heat/humidity...
    installing galvalume.. (shiny silvery color)
over a "bubble wrap" insulation with a bright shiny aluminum like foil.
the insulation is reflecting heat and light big time...
two threats. the heat and humidity added to the glare had me and other guy both
a little loopy and wasted. a threat from falling and dehydration were becoming real.

it has sure made me think about what would happen without doctors nearby.

That metal roofing is no joke! I did an addition for a furniture store and it was a shiny aluminum color and the sun got me from above and below...stinking reflection. I was a lobster.

Work for an hour or two in the morning or when you are in the shade. A little at a time.

That kind of work is hard on anyone, your 25 so I know it doesn't affect you as much as it does me.... But be careful nevertheless.

We are the same way here, roofing work ALWAYS seems to find us whenever the heat goes up. Almost never in the winter or when it's cool.

Yeah, I bet that sucked. I did a roof mid July a few years ago, flat rubber roof. Would put dish towels that were wet into the freezer til they were frozen. Then put them around our necks to keep us cool. Had frozen gallon water jugs that were on the roof at daybreak, only to be completely thawed by 10:00am and usually empty in another hour. I found out that day the reason I don't do roofing anymore...too old! The heat would suck the life right out of us. The only reason none of us went down was all but one working were medical so we knew to hydrate like there was no tomorrow. I can't imagine working with a reflective surface. It was hot enough with black rubber.

          lol

          lol...

          well,
what a fella needs to remember is to get in shape and stay in shape, even if a fella's hair is beginning to thin, and turn gray.

seems like a survivalist friend of mine has pointed that out before!

(for any that don't know, ld3 has figured out that I'm a "few" years older than he...)

Even youngsters like you can get heat exhaustion. Hats, evaporative cooling, and lots of water, not especially cold, will mitigate the effects. There are few old roofers...Seems to me a fella like you would know some folks that would lend a hand for the bigger jobs...

Or just work at night, in the rain, supervising contractors...

                this is embarrassing..
                we finished Saturday...
wife and I took "other fellow" and his wife to dinner.
                -
I was wasted. I think it was a combination of heat/humidity over several days.
I left my wallet at the restaurant... I never do that. I'm always careful to see that it's neatly shoved in the pocket.
we got home and I did my usual pocket clearing out. I did not realize I had no billfold.

bottom line... the restaurant found some info in my wallet and called... I tried to reward hostess. she refused.
finally gave her a check to give to her church.

I let bride drive to and from restaurant. I realized I wasn't hitting on all 4 cylinders.
I ain't going in the roofing business.
even though I'm still a young fella, this heat/humidity can get you... a huge lesson for me.

There's also a good reason I don't do them any more.
Three days out there would waste you for the rest of the week...
People that don't do that knew thing are fooling themselves if they think that in rocks area or ours that they just plop on their over loaded pack and bug out or walk home.

I was on my roof by 9 am Sunday it was 95% humidity and 80 f ...trimming trees...cleaning gutters etc. By the time I got down to haul off the limbs and finish othervyard chores I was soakes through..no breeze and I drank a Gatorade Ans 4 bottles of h2o in 2.5 hours time....took me another liter of water before I started flowing.....
By that time it was 95 out....and weather should heat index of 105+.

Why didn't I move to the mountains LOL
