Have a friend who is type 2. What can be used for Insulin in a SHTF situation?
Hikinbob
It depends on the situation. I don't know how well Type 2 can be controlled thru diet only. This one of those things that has been discussed...take care of our bodies and work hard to stay off as much medication as possible. If there isn't power to keep the refrigerator and freezer running then the Type 2 medication won't last long and then Type 2 people start dieing.
One of those Doomsday Prepper shows had a segment on it with diabetic folks... Their plan was to have a root cellar or something involving a hole in the ground, where the temp was always in the low 50's. They thought their Insulin would keep ok there.
Type 2 diabetes is typically a result of the body's inability to make enough of, or to properly use insulin. Treatment often begins with an exercise program and a healthy diet to help lower the blood sugar levels. However, if this treatment plan is ineffective, medication may be necessary. Medications for diabetes may be given in pill or injectable forms.
Exercise program first, Eat healthy second. If that doesent work try to get pills if you can, they dont need to be refrigerated and travel well in a bug-out.
