  • wool vs cotton socks

well last night i put on my work boots to mow and i put on some cotton socks...it was warmer than usual so i was sweating more and my feet especially well wouldn't u know it i started to get a blister from my wet socks and boots. If i would have put on my wool socks I don't think i would have gotten the blisters. I will do so next time thats for sure!

I went to walgreens and got some moleskin for my heels.

Best thing you can do is use a sock liner if you are getting blisters. Sock liners wick away the moisture. You also need to look at the fit of the shoe you are wearing. Do you have a high instep or a narrow heal?

I have a high instep...this is the first time I have gotten a blister from wearing these boots...my feet were really wet from the cotton socks....I have worn wool socks with these boots until this one time which is why I think it is more related to the socks rather than the boot. Needless to say I will be wearing my wool socks again with these boots and not my cotton socks!!

I will be mowing again this weekend so I will report back my findings.

I live in FLA and wear wool socks a lot of the time... they really work better in boots. Back when this area was settled most people wore wool clothes... and I wish I'd listened to my
Grandparents and wore a hat all year round, it would have saved some trips to the 'skin doctor'... Yea, I sweat in wool socks some, but they don't rub as bad... just my thoughts...

I've lived in AZ for the last 30 years and I always wear wool socks when I wear hiking/hunting boots. To prevent blisters I wear liner socks inside the wool socks. Haven't had a blister in over 25 years.
"One cannot but ponder the question: what if the Arabs had been Christians? To me it seems certain that the fatalistic teachings of Mohammed and the utter degradation of women is the outstanding cause for the arrested development of the Arab. He is exactly what he was around the year 700, while we have kept on developing. Here, I think, is a text for some eloquent sermon on the virtues of Christianity." - General George S. Patton, diary, June 9, 1943.

I only wear cotton socks if they are the low rider/ ankle kind if I am cutting grass. Other than that, its Wool all day everyday. It was 90 some odd degrees today when the family and I went for a hike and picnic and my feet felt GREAT!

The merino ones are my fav. Wish there was an adult onesy made of merino wool, camo ofcourse, I would wear it proudly....lol

So far the Omni Wool Socks brand (Merino) have been great...I found them at Sams club last year and have been using the heck out of them with no regrets. The money I saved on buying this brand at Sams paid for our membership!! I think it was $15 per pkg, which made it $5 per pair, and on the Omni Wool Site and other sites they were charging $10/pair.
