Hey, I looked but couldn't find anything so I will ask here. I just bought a minor surgical kit and had heard that there is a way to practice stitching skin using fruit, banana maybe? I'm an Emt but never stitched skin before. Does anyone have any ideas? I don't remember if it was a tomato or banana or what. Thanks.

The class I took had us stitching chicken thighs! Talk about needing a 3rd hand, my goodness what a slippery, mobile mess. Seems to me an orange would not simulate skin very well, being thick and not mobile like skin. I hear tell those ham hocks are the very best simulation to use. BTW where did you find those videos? They are really good! Got any more? Link maybe?
Another BTW, in the class I took I discovered a HUGE difference in suture material. That black thread is always silk suture material and it is the easiest and fastest to work with. Those monofiliment type sutures are slippery and really hard to tie knots in and keep in place - really hard. It IS just fancy fishing line but necessary to use in certain repairs, but mostly internal stuff. I have no experience using any absorbable type sutures.Last edited by goatlady; 03-11-2012, 07:34 PM.

The orange video, was he taking too big a bite with the needle locations? Seemed like alot from what I remember.
Really liked the concealed suture video. Although wouldn't waste my time with it for survival situations. :)
Remember, CHICKS DIG SCARS!
