YIKES!!! You tryin' to kill somebody? 5%???
Normal Saline, abbreviated NS is a solution strength of 0.9% yes that is zero point nine... 5% would put them into hypotonic shock and kill them pretty quickly... just sayin' :)
But you are correct that NS is what is used for irrigation, also irrigation for the EYES, yes ladies and gentlemen the eyes. We got a Soldier come into the clinic after splashing bleach in his eyes during a GI party, guess what we flushed his eyes out with? NS and ALOT OF IT!! Just another tool for your survival toolbox.
OH, NS comes in different strengths as well NS (0.9%) 1/2NS (0.45%) 1/3NS (0.3%), I think those are the only ones they currently use??? Been a LOOONG time since I played combat lifesaver...
Klayton, I made NO mention of using NS as an IV solution, ONLY as a wound irrigant as per the original post question ABOUT wound irrigants. and yes, I forgot the decimal point and I only had 1 cup of coffee, brain was still fuzzy and apparently my brain was thinking D5NS! Sorry.
