Which antibiotics do you store?

I've been looking at several different "fish and bird" antibiotics. There are many different ones. Which ones do you guys store and where do you find the suggested amounts to take? I have looked a lot at cipro and think that I will purchase it, but really want to know what everyone else thinks.

Are the M.A.R.S. antibiotics available also and what are they listed as? My father-in-law had drug resistant staph several years ago and lost function of his right hand as well as two vertebrae had to be removed from his neck. He was hospitalized for weeks.

Google is your friend on drug dosages and what antibiotic to use for what disease. Most common antibiotic dosage is 250 mg every 4 hours for 7-10 days. The antibiotics are most usually made with each pill at the proper dosage. I store what are considered broad spectrum antibiotics for basic system treatment - respiratory like bronchitis/pneumonia; GI, GU, and doxycycline specifically as an anthrax treatment/preventive, amoxicillin, ampicillin, and penicillin are handy also. Cipro is a real high power antibiotic, not to be taken for any length of time usually for a specific drug-resistent disease and unless you know what you are treating you probably would be better off using something else. It's best to start stocking the antibiotics you have taken in the past for dis-ease you have been treated for.

If you are gong to stock antibiotics you should have a good medical text for their use. A very good one is the John Hopkins ABX Guide. 1st edition is available used on amazon for $0.74!!! 2nd and 3rd editions are available at higher costs.

Goes over each antibiotic and what medical conditions it's useful for and also has a section with specific medical conditions and which antibiotics/dosages to prescribe. MRSA info is dated in the 1st edition so if you are concerned about that get the latest edition but I believe you'd need very specific IV antibiotics to fight those anyways.

There are many online pharmacys available, All Day Chemist comes to mind. Also many, many folks purchase from online Vet supply places knowing that the "fish" antibiotics are really human drugs and absolutely safe for human usage. Those "fish" antibiotics are made by the same companies, in the same dosage, and the same form as those labeled for prescription only for people, just labeled differently and do not need prescriptions to be purchased. At least according to my 2 different Vets, and several M.D.s I have worked with. Do not use dog, cat, horse, cow, sheep, goat, etc antibiotics - those have a different formulation with added buffers geared to the animal's different digestive systems, but the "fish" ones are just fine to use which I have done when the appropriate needs arises.

Not as far as I know and I know LOTS of folks online who order monthly from oveseas pharmacies with absolutely no problems at all. There is no customs or import fees as these ARE american products.

Found a video on youtube from the patriot nurse. She lists 5 antibiotics she recommends for the South. She lives in Tennessee. She also has several other very good videos, one being on expiration dates versus true shelf life of a drug. Seems that the gov't did a study to save money on drugs it was throwing out.

Most posts I have read seem to highly value the All Day Chemist site. But I personally order mine from Lambria Vet supply and/or on Amazon - best prices for the products for "fish" biotics. If you Vac-pack the bottles of caps/tabs and keep in the freezer that in itself stops any aging, so the "expiration" time does not start until you thaw them out. I keep mine frozen and just remove the caps/tabs as I need to take them. Absolutely no negative side effects over the years I have done this.

One problem, tarheelman, that site requires a VET prescription and most dog, cat, horse, and cow, etc, antibiotice most usually contain buffers so that the animal's digestive system can handle the medication. The fish antibiotics require no prescription, so far, and contain no buffers of any sort, AND are made in human adult dosage pills/tablets. I've been using the fish antibiotic, when absolutely necessary, over many years with excellent results. The d0g/cat meds are a bit cheaper than the fish because of the buffers and the lesser amount of medication. Just some information for folks to consider.

Patriot Lady has been ordering ours from ebay since Amazon hasn't had any fish biotics lately. Great info. about freezing! We'll start that immediately!
