I found a link on the survivalblog about suturing. This video however was done under ideal conditions. While perusing the subject, I came across USNEDDOC videos on suturing under austere conditions. This is a 4 part video and is EXCELLENT.

I never thought of using a Weatherman as a needle driver. Anyway - his technique is excellent.

I used to suture up wounds on my bird dogs all the time. they never got cut when the Vet was available.

I had to put eighteen stiches in one once !

Does any of the suture information above,include decision parameters related to deciding if a given suture or cauterization will not lead to the flesh in the wound area dying?

USNEDDOC covers this in some of his stuff, in fact he has a whole criteria of guidlines in making the descison to sew

Any suggestions on where one could get the strongest concentration of lidocaine?

I have taught suturing in Animal Science. I use bananas and out of date sutures that i pickup from the hospital. They destroy them.
The bananas are very easy to tear so the students have to be careful and precise. We would practice Mattress, Interrupted and Uninterrupted sutures.

We did this under the auspice of first aid for animals. The students thought it was the Best!! We used nursing vids from youtube as the lecture portion.

@ Justified - We found a "sexual aid" at ChinaMart that had 5% lidocaine for topical use. We figured it would be good for lacerations but it does burn like all get out in the wound for the first 20 seconds or so! Ambesol which has nearly 20% Benzocaine also works.
