i have had kidney stones since i was 20 years old, i don't like narcotics that they give you in the emergency room, i do ok with ibuprofen 800 mg, if i know it is coming i just take 4 over the conter tablets, this will get me through the passage of the stone and no narcotic hang over, i can go to work. yes there is some discomfort but it is manageable.

I've never had kidney stones, but have read that Chamberbitter (Phyllanthus urinaria) is an effective remedy for kidney stones. Here in the south where I am (Florida) it grows everywhere as a weed. It is also called "Shatterstone" and "Stone breaker." You can be sure that if I get a kidney (or gall) stone I will be drinking some Chamberbitter tea.

An equally important action is the use against kidney stones (renal calculi), urinary tract- and bladder infections.
In preliminary research in animals, extracts of Phyllanthus plants have shown promising results in pain relief.
The mechanism seems to be that this is reached by decreasing inflammation.

      Dosage
Two - to three cups (1 - 2 teaspoon / cup) of tea, daily for two months.

I have passed 3 kidney stones thus far, the first and only one that was in the ED was because I was working on Easter Sunday and could not get anyone to come in and cover (22 yrs as a ED RN) Long 12 hour shift let me tell ya. The other two were at home and not at all the way I would suggest someone pass the time if it can be avoided :) Stay away from soda, stick to fruit juices, cranberry as was mentioned is great, lots of water, and pray you don't get one.
